  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

FS: Sony F3 Primes

I can't see why not...

Although I heard they were not that great and there was a algorithm in the f3 that helped them achieve the high quality look that they offer, but only while they are on an f3 body.

Yes they can work on a RED One quite nicely. Tested out the set back in January on both the EPIC and RED One. The body is plastic but other than that had no issues with them.

Ultra primes they ain't.. but they are very sharp and great for the money.

The scary thing is.... they optically arent that terrible.... they look like olympus still glass.

Yeah, on par with good SLR glass in terms of image quality. I think the current Nikon G primes and Canon L's are superior though. Biggest issues with these lenses is their construction.... Not built to last, lots of plastic inside and out. I don't mean to rain on the parade here... All things considered, they're pretty decent lenses (PL mount too) for the money.

they are big, but not heavy at all. they are sharp, and fast. the focus is nice and light. they feel great to use, but yes, they are not built to last. if you are a rental company, i would stay away, but as an owner operator, you can't beat that you get three MODERN lenses for the price of one compact prime.

I'll just echo what's been said already. Good lenses optically, plastic bodies, so-so mechanics. Matt Duclos wrote a blog about it here: http://matthewduclos.wordpress.com/2011/04/06/nice_try_sony/

They breath a bit, but the glass is pretty. You'd want to treat them carefully, unlike Zeiss CPs or Schneider Cine-Xenars lenses you don't get the piece of mind that you could always get those lenses serviced if you ran into any problems. If you are outside of warranty on the Sony's I think you are toast.

As a general rule I'm completely against buying expensive glass on ebay. I wouldn't buy the Sony's glass without some sort of inspection/return guarantee.

I have it on good authority that you will not see any more focal lengths of matching lenses of this series made by Sony.

In the interview at NAB last year at the Sony booth the Sony rep distinctly stated that the optical flaws in the lenses was corrected in the F3's camera firmware. Doesn't mean that they can't work on any PL digital camera but the flaws may not be to everyone's liking...... or the CA might be interesting
