Hello all,

I just placed up on ebay a set of six Arri Standard - to - PL mount adapters for a very reasonable starting bid of $249 (see below for full ebay text).

EBAY LISTING TEXT:

"Up for sale is a set of 6 ARRI STANDARD-to-PL MOUNT adapters. These are brand new and un-used. I bought them from a dealer in India for more than twice of what I am listing them for. I had planned to use them for a set of Cooke Speed Panchro's I had, but I ended up selling the Cooke's and no longer have an immediate use for this set.

Anyhow, if you've shopped for PL-Mount adapters, you know they can cost from $200 each used to $500 each new. This is a good cost effective alternative. And to clarify, this auction is for ALL SIX adapters, not just one.

If you have a set of Zeiss standard mount lenses or older Cooke's, etc. that you want to use on your RED ONE or other PL Mount camera, this is a very good deal. Not only is the price better than what I paid for them (which was already very cost effective), but you don't have to send money and wait for them to arrive from India.

What you see in the pictures are the actual six adapters I have for sale, as I obviously took the photographs. And if remembering correctly, these are stainless steel from a CNC machine as when purchased form India (NEW NOTE: I am not a metal expert. The mounts obviously are not rusting, so I can only assume if they aren't stainless steel they are steel with some sort of electorplating or something. The metal seems far too hard, so from my basic knowledge, I would have to say to rule out aluminum. Take that knowledge as you will). As seen in the pictures, there are some allan wrench set screws to tighten onto the arri-standard mount.

Please Note: these are obviously just for ARRI STANDARD mount lenses and not ARRI-B mount lenses.

If you have any further questions, don't hesitate to send me a e-mail. I should also mention that since I am just an indie film guy and not a dealer, I have to sell the lens "as is", and do not take returns. But feel comfortable knowing I have 100% e-bay feedback. Thanks for looking."

What would make you think the focus ring would not turn?

Well, if the lens is a barrell focus like the old cooke speed panchro's or the Schneider Xenon's, then you would not be able to use these. Also, I have had a few of these mounts in my possession and they are out of spec. I am able to machine them down to the proper tollerences since I believe they were cut right and then they electroplated them or something. I am not sure if these are the same mounts or not so these may be OK. Try to slide it on to a Standard mount lens. If it is very tight, then I am afraid it may be.

Thanks for this explanation. I happen to have some old speed panchros - I use them on a camera body not discussed here :-) and I was wondering if I have overlooked something with the specs of these adaptors.

Hi Peter,

Yeah, Les Bosher in the U.K. sells a special adapter specifically made for the Cooke Panchros. I think it is about $450. I bought one, but unfortunately, that mount wouldn't fit in the Arri BL4 I was going to use them with. It was hitting the mirror. Anyhow, I got theses to try out. And while not 100% ideal, I found I could mount the old Panchros and turn the front of the barrel to focus (instead of the focus ears, which obviously wouldn't move). That was a decent solution for the longer barrel lenses (like the 50mm and 75mm). Of course, the Cooke lenses are unique to that situation. Arri standards don't have that problem. But I sold my Cooke Panchros last year.

Just a reminder that this auction ends today.
Thanks!

Martin Stent does better work than L. Boscher and is much cheaper, more on time and knows optics better. Les is very good but had limitations. stent.martin@googlemail.com . Martin's work is much tighter. I think adaptors are under $160 per lens.
