  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

FS: Set (11) Canon K35 Primes w/ Extras

Thanks for the info Tony.

I never speak with denigration about any lens that I have not personally examined and tested. My experience with the limited amount of Canon cine lenses has been quite good. In the mid 1970's Canon was really pushing the state of the art in optical design for photography, with aspherical lenses and fluorite glass.

That said, my only interest would be to try to avoid confusion. I'm working on a PL conversion for the lenses I know of as K-35 (the ones in the ad that was posted earlier in this thread). I'm looking to find a better way to identify the lenses so that potential customers won't be disappointed when I see their lenses and tell them that my conversion won't work on their lenses.

This reminds me a little of the pointless and acrimonious discussion last year about what was a Mk. I or Mk. II Zeiss Super Speed. People were practically insulting each other over unofficial lens names (Carl Zeiss NEVER used the Mk. designation, neither did ARRI).

We had to use them for a small " food " commercial and our main problem was that these lenses where breathing (change in focal length) really too much, especially for commercial reasons .I guess that happens with older lenses or the photography rehoused ones. The lenses,if you caught the point where sharp, the colors where" funky "saturated, which we had unfortunately to correct, of course because of the customer .I own myself a K35 18mm 1.5 which has a BNCR & a arri standart mount but i am useing it only for special reasons.

Gentlemen; Breathing was not a characteristic of K35 lenses whichever model you wish to name them. I would also be suprised to find the scrolls are worn. More likely they need regreaseing. I am also well known for being very picky about Focul Depth of 4K Cameras which do not set up the same way as film. Just a gnats cock off [technical term] and you will get the manifestations you speak off.
Just for my twopence worth.

It is already a while ago,but i try to get the footage from the commercial we shot, where we had this "breathing problem"...
But when we look at this fresh footage with the movielenses http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9HsS3tA34oI they are "breathing" nice effectively ...however, the canons are very service vulnerable, a fact which i shared with quiet view camera assistants.

Conversion Canon K35 lenses with BNCR on PL mount

Conversion Canon K35 lenses with BNCR on PL mount

the ebay listing states PL mount but they look like BNCR mounts, as far as I know they can not be converted to PL mount (everything is possible with a complete rehousing)
It looks like the Moviecam BNCR set, not a K35 set.
the youngest (20 years old) K35 have BNCR AND PL mounts.
please correct me when 'm wrong

thanks

hi Sergey
sure it is no problem for the k35 series bncr to pl but this is different for the ones made for moviecam bncr

best

Definitely, these lenses are REALLY MOVIECAM LENSES ... in BNCR mount, from the years 1980's sold, exclusively by Moviecam in Vienna at that time, when they couldn't make their Moviecam in PL mount (not allowed by ARRI, their biggest competitor at that time !) ...
They were - however - great lenses to use on film cameras, but there was a BIG problem with the 50mm which can be used wider than T:2.0 (check out the T-stop and you will see it keeps opening if your turn the ring !) ... smart peaople tought they could benefit from that issue ... wrong they were as it was producing a ghost double picture on film !

the K-35 Canon lenses were all faster lenses being T:1.3 to T:1.7, depending on their focal lengths, also being EXCLUSIVELY BNCR mounted, designed also for Moviecam at that time, widely spread ou in all major rental houses like Samuelson at that time (80's) but they were 18/24/35/55/85mm lenses...

for the one looking for a VERY GOOD SET OF PRIMES T/2, these Moviecam lenses are really great lenses ... (depends on the price !) but yes indeed you can't keep exchanging the BNCR to PL mount on your RED ... I wouldn't recommend that as well ... keep it BNCR if you buy thoses lenses, and you won't have any troubles to find a universal BNCR mount for zooms and/or telephoto lenses if ever needed to rent such a lens from a rental house ... major (old) rental houses still run BNCR universal mounts as spares, if not they can be easily located at any equipment broker worldwide !
