I put together a unique, lightweight, flexible system for the RED One Camera--but have since moved onto the Epic. So I'm selling it here.

Handle System, Shoulder Mount System, Baseplate - NO LONGER AVAILABLE -- These are the ideal solution for RED 1 Cameras!
Birger mount/Impero SOLD.
Breakout Box SOLD.
Hot Swap SOLD.

The handle, baseplate and custom dovetail enable operators to comfortably hand hold the RED One -- with optimal placement of the EVF and the battery weight counterbalanced in a low position (actually on your back). Moreover, with the system's lightweight integrated sliding dovetail attached directly to your fluid head's quickplate you can go from handheld to tripod in mere seconds.

This system includes SIM's baseplate (much smaller than the RED/ET baseplate), which allowed me to custom manufacture an ultra-low profile sliding dovetail plate with integrated rosettes. This enables a handheld rig with the lowest Center of Gravity of any handheld system I've seen for the RED 1 -- with this setup the camera sits much, much lower than it would on say an ET Mantis setup. It also includes SIM's top handle, EVF holder and battery plate system.

Super lightweight.
Excellent in studio mode
Also excellent in handheld mode -- can swap from one to the other in seconds.
Built in studio 15mm baseplate (100mm)
Built in lightweight 15mm adapter (60mm)
Build in handle with flat portion that can be rigged securely from the top.
Built in battery plate (with Dtap). This is a RED battery plate.
Built in sliding dovetail plate with custom shoulder machining.
Built in Handle system with Arri rosettes
Built in cheese stick.
Built in Focus Hook.
Built in, highly adjustable EVF mount.
Battery plate can be repositioned from top to low/back.
Lowest Center of Gravity (best handholding) that I'm aware of.

The top handle, base plate and battery plate originally cost $3295 while the Custom Dovetail cost a ton.

NO LONGER AVAILABLE.

I've attached some photos that demonstrate how the battery plate can be removed from the SIM top handle and inserted into the custom shoulder plate/ dovetail.

The battery plate remains adjustable in that lower position -- in other words, it can be rotated up or down, so that its a tight, yet comfortable fit.

I've attached photos that demonstrates the Arri-compatible dovetail machined into the shoulder plate. This allows the low profile SWIT baseplate to slide forward (to achieve proper balance when in studio mode on a tripod) and to slide backward (to achieve proper balance when in handheld mode -- putting the camera as far back on the shoulder and as low to the shoulder as possible).

I've also attached a photo showing the quick release plate attached to the bottom of the dovetail/shoulder plate -- the whole camera simply snaps into and out of most tripods.

Uploaded more pictures of the dovetail plate / shoulder mount / handles. The handles use Arri Rosettes. I'll include 4 additional rosettes so that you can make any kind of handles that you like... The gold colored quickplate is not included in the sale (it is the Cartoni quickplate that snaps into the Delta fluid head -- fluid head/sticks not included in this sale either), it is just shown for illustrative purposes.

Paul,

Looks like a good shoulder rig for the R1. Might even have the weight close to balanced with that R1 Canon.

What shoulder setup are you using with your Epic?

THanks

Hi Will,

Best to read the first post (Page 1) where it explains it in more detail, but the top handle system and baseplate were manufactured by SIM. I had the dovetail/handle/shoulder mount custom manufactured. I hadn't expected RED to completely change their form factor so I'm losing lots of $$$ on this because it doesn't work with the Epic/Scarlet form factor. But I think this is probably the lowest center of gravity, best handheld to studio and back system you can get. At the time, I used this with the original evf. The new bomb would make it that much better...

Paul, you in LA right?

Sorry Will -- Vancouver.
