For Sale: Original RED 300mm f2.8 PL mount lens (Imperial)

Excellent condition. This is the original version of the RPP 300mm. Optically they are exactly the same.

The original 300mm lens is exactly the same optically and mechanically as the new Pro 300mm. The new Pro 300mm has the new "Pro" ID to match the 18-85mm zoom and RPPs. And we finally get to make a little money on it. The original 300mm is certainly not "un-pro".

Check out this great post by Mark Toia on using the original 300mm with his Epic.

The original 300mm sold for $5750 new. The RPP 300mm is currently $5950 new or $3500 battle-tested.

I prefer support whenever possible. But I've had many occasions when none was available, and it worked fine. No focus issues and no undue stress on the mount. Never for any extended period of time, though.

A do correction needed here Dave,as to avoid unwanted issue with you buyer, what you are selling is the MKI version of the RPP 300mm, and what is now selling on the RED store and offered as BT for $3,500 is the MII Version, the one pictured below.

Same excellent and very sharp optics, and mechanically but a completely re-designed lens.

Best of luck with your sale.

I've never heard of the lenses referred to as the RPP 300mm MKI and RPP 300mm MKII. Is this the official designation? I thought only the current version was named Red Pro Prime 300mm.

I updated and clarified the original post to avoid any confusion.

Correct Dave, the original was designed only as RED PRIME, and the new redesigned versions as RED PRO PRIME, but I mentioned as MKI and MKII to define the difference between the two as one being not the other, meaning that the one you were selling was not the same as the one selling now as Battle Tested.

Differenciacion made only to insure that both you and your buyer will conclude an happy sale without issues from the buyer, again, best of luck with this sale.

Dave, where are you located?

I have no experience with the RED Pro Matte Box, but I do know that the MB-20 will work with the 300mm. I just use the lens hood. There is a filter slot in the rear of lens with a drop in tray for 43mm screw-on filters.

I purchased it new from RED in 2008.

I was one that paid $5750 and also had a custom ATA case made. It's a specialty lens to most shooters and a gorgeous lens at that. If I were to do it all over again I would purchase the same lens and not the (so called) MKII. Lighter and support wasn't manditory with the same optical quality. Folks always think latest model replaces the previous model but in my opinion the MKI is a badass all around lens.

Stick to your guns with that price. It took me a while to sell mine and i refused a shit load of low ball offers.

Thanks Ivan. I love this lens, but since I've sold my PL mount, I just don't have much opportunity to use it anymore.

This fantastic deal is still available!

Excellent price Dave, unbeatable.
