Selling my dead mint, prized Metric-Halo ULN-8 audio interface. Bought it 10 months ago, barely used at home only for a few months then put into storage while I decide where to move during my NO-life crisis.

This is exceptional, top of the line, cream of the crop, 100% PRO gear.

You have to read about it to really understand what this interface is capable of doing.

The best street price out there is from B&H at $5745.

$5000 (plus shipping) and SAVE $745. This price is firm and worth every penny.

Someone mentioned to me that I need to simplify the information on Metric-Halo website about what this unit can do.

This is the SuperHero of audio interfaces!

I'll try to point out a few amazing features.

1. Digital audio mixer with effects processing, preset recall (and more) in 1RU space.

2. Superb remote controllable audio pre-amps (8 channels) integrated into the unit.

3. Mobile or studio use. Includes 4pin XLR power connection for running off standard battery power.

4. Software includes multichannel recording application, matrix routing (any in to any out).

5. Future Proof, Expandable, and software-enhanceable.

6. Support for mirrored recording (recording to two drives at once).

I wasn't sure which features to list as there are so many.

This interface is perfect for location recording, setting up an edit room with 7.1 surround sound, audio recording for music, SFX, ADR etc.

If you have any questions send a PM to me.

This is one of the best mobile interfaces you can get your hands on, I'd take it if I didn't already have one ready to go into my van.
So free bump and endorsement.

I'll echo Jay and raise the fact that it's not only one of the best mobile interfaces out there, it is one of the best audio interfaces period.

I disagree, not one of the best, but THE best.

Now I'm not so sure I should sell it! :001_wub:

Thanks for all the feedback. I know I'll kick myself later for selling this but I'm trying to regroup and get myself to Los Angeles. So I'm selling a few things to help facilitate this, but have mixed feelings about what to sell.

I'm in the odd position of have a substantial amount of money invested in enough equipment to open a small-ish but very high quality post edit suite.

But it's all packed away in a storage unit in NY.

What to do? I would love to get to LA, possibly partner with someone (Ketch?) but finances won't allow it at the moment. Catch 22..

Another important note, it can output and input at the same time. As far as I know thats pretty rare. Like 16 channels in or out or 8 and 8.

I think it's 18 channels of simultaneous I/O if you use the ADAT lightpipe I/O and the AES/EBU I/O.

You can also daisy chain multiple units and they will show all show up as one larger unit in the MIO software.

I would base my decision on mobility... sell anything that is large and takes up space. If you still need more cash, then sell the ULN, as you can carry it with you. I still have crap stuck in NYC stashed in friends' closets, lost at storage units, in businesses' basements....

Although, if your trying to open a post room, your more likely looking at a ProTools rig anyways, though, so the MH would be of limited use there, unless you wanted to go against the grain and do a Nuendo Suite.

Thanks for the advice Tom.

I'm thinking about the best way to do this. I have studio furniture, desks, audio monitor stands, equipment racks, a lot of big stuff that would be hard to sell for a decent price and cost 10X what I can sell it for to buy all over again.

I'm thinking about setting up an edit suite that is multi-purpose and geared toward the indy market who needs an editor who can do as much as possible for a good price.

Is there room in LA for a guy like me? I don't know.

Anyway, I'm weighing all my options, including the idea of getting out of this line of work all together. :w00t: The joke amongst some of my colleagues was "hey, you can always sell real estate". But that was before the housing market collapsed.

But that might be a separate thread in the off-topic area later.

You can always do a self service drop off / freight shipment from Edison NJ, take your stuff in a truck down there, boxed and prepped to be loaded onto a pallet. Ground freighting to Gardena, CA may be the cheapest way for you in the long run. I ground/sea-freighted my stuff to Honolulu when I made the move out here and it was reasonable considering the distances involved.

I don't live in LA, but I figure there is a lot of work there, but there are also a lot of workers. The microdynamics of the situation would significantly outweigh any generic factors. I would say do it. It's not like your moving from Nebraska to LA, your moving from NYC which is already expensive, so your cost of living should actually be lower out there.

With respect to ProTools, I know there are lots of reasons to dislike Avid, but if you want to work professionally with others, you should really just give in and do it. This is an argument simply based upon industry practices and installed base. If you don't have to collaborate with others, sure, Logic, Cubase, Reaper, Nuendo, they are all capable and have may have individual advantages over ProTools, but OMF export/import simply does not work properly with enough reliability between platforms to rely on it professionally. I've seen a lot of contractor edit suites set up with an MBox and a pair of Genelecs. It's pretty pathetic, but that is the reality of post-sound.

**I think I meant to say Elizabeth, or Edison? not sure, I forget**

Thanks Tom.

I'm looking into that method of shipping. I'm going to give it a try and get myself to LA. I want to get my stuff moved, unpacked and back in the game.

As far as Pro Tools, I do have PTLe with an MBox that I use to open sessions. But, man, you have to spend $8000 on the lowest HD1 hardware to use their best interface 192 I/O which is only A/D converters.

IMO Metric-Halo is like RED in manys ways. Does more, for lower costs, and with better results.
