Such a beautiful lens... A much more sensible focal length range than the 24-290 imho. Does the cover full 5K?

Based on tech specs provided by Arri I would NOT count on this zoom covering more than S35.

Love the zoom ratio & range, fast aperture, build quality and optical performance.

Unfortunately its heavy (26 lbs) which limits its versatility and its expensive for an owner/op.

Would rent it happily for the right shoot. Should work a charm on a crane/jib/dolly that can handle the weight. Would be particularly valuable if the storyboards called for a lot of zooming. Due to its sophisticated design it deftly controls ramping, breathing, etc. Almost a no brainer if most of your shoot is on the Master Primes and you need a well matched zoom for a few specific shots.

I presume it stacks up as every bit equal to Master Primes optically, otherwise they wouldn't have stuck the 'Master' label on it; I can see this lens being shot as a variable prime, using it instead of a set of MPs, for those jobs where you don't need the speed of MPs and can't justify the budget, and where you can live with the weight and bulk of the Master Zoom... that how *I* would shoot it, as a prime replacemen. Would still love it, working on the budget Darryl; if it's still for sale by the time I raise the money, it's mine! :-)
