I've got a spare GTX480 1.5GB from Mr. Dave the Mac Card wizard. For those unfamiliar (or living under a rock), he does custom ROMs for NVidia cards that allow full EFI support on Mac. These show full boot and PCI screens allowing you to see all the info as well as utilize the card at full speed 5GT/s vs 2.5. All you install is specific NVidia drivers for your OS (Quadro if you're on 10.6.8) and the proper CUDA drivers and away you go. He is well reviewed. He uses B-stock cards to modify, so obviously this isn't a "new" card but it is like-new from him in great condition. We bought it for an expansion chassis and never got around to utilizing it in the spare machine.
In head to head tests this card equaled a GTX570 1.2GB in Davinci and other apps. Here is what we saw with a 5,1 32GB 12 Core with SAS RAID and SSD OS Drive in the standard Candle test (as seen on Creativecow):
04 Blur Nodes - 24FPS
08 Blur Nodes - 24FPS
16 Blur Nodes - 11/12 FPS
32 Blur Nodes - 6 FPS
64 Blur Nodes - 3 FPS
(Did not conduct NR tests)
With a GT120 accompanying it in Davinci V8 it's pretty smooth. Keep in mind this card is not the underclocked version so care needs to be taken for internal use on a Mac. I would recommend an external power supply or use in an expansion chassis. If you prefer it to be installed internally then you are welcome to send the card to Mac Vid Cards and have it clocked to match the PCI slot's power.
Shoot me any questions you have. If you are running 10.6.8 still this is THE card to have for speed and stability.
