FS: Low 200's Serial Number Red Camera

Thanks Raul, caught your response over at Scarlet too. Thats cool, I was hoping since Scarlet sounds like it will be produced in larger numbers lets hope that the difference between #10 and #2000 is 2 weeks:seeya:

I've had the same experience but

I've had the same experience but

Funny thing is, talking to people at RED, there are often different answers. So I go off of what Jim, Jarred and Deanan say. As of the last official statement, delivery date still plays a role in addition to serial number. This policy was put into place based on customer feedback and comments here in the forums. The topic is discussed in the Crucial Ordnance forum. RED One ownership also doesn't apply to priority for all things... Like the RED Rocket, it's first-come first-served, whether you own a camera or not. Which makes sense; lots of people out there who have need for R3D post workflow, but don't have the need of actually owning a camera.

Like all things RED, this can change at any moment. And the current policy may or may not apply to EPIC upgrades, etc.. They may go entirely off serial number, and there is a certain logic to doing that. For now, all we can do is speculate while we wait for the details.

As Jeff states, I too have had the left hand / right hand problem of differing answers on some topics.

On the upgrade path however, I think the answer is quite clear, at least for now:

From red.com FAQ-

What is the order of eligibility for the EPIC X upgrade program?

The order of eligibility for RED ONE owners to trade up to EPIC X is based, in order, on the delivery date of the RED ONE. Production numbers will be targeted to fulfilling the demand in a relatively short period of time, so the wait will not be a long one.

Also, a lot of people that have a R1 may not want to execute their number on Scarlet, they may be getting Epic. Or in my case (#290) I want the FF Scarlet, which won,t be out immediately. Since there are so many possibilities the demand is going to be scattered a lot more when compared to the demand for the R1. Accessories on the other hand.... could be crazy.

Anyway- all the more reason to get a low serial number camera if you can.
Good luck with your sale- sorry for all the digression 8)

You're right on that Raul.

For me, I want the FF35 Scarlet as well and I want the fixed lens Scarlet too. But I don't intend to execute my RED serial # for either of those options. I'll hold onto my RED One and trade it for an Epic FF35 or 645 brain. I may go the Epic X route if the free modules are a good enough deal. But in the end, I see the scarlet FF35 and fixed lens models being my every day use cameras. Then have the larger Epic for other specialty jobs, rentals, etc..

My biggest concern with Epic-X is that I may be "forced" to upgrade to it just to keep clients / customers happy. Even though the RED One will still be a great camera and will continue to receive updates, I think that market perception in regards to the bulk of the industry who doesn't own the cameras, is that the RED One will have become obsolete.
