FS: Epic-X Stage 2 Reservation (derived from Red One #378) & Epic-M rental package

The word has come down from Red HQ that I am eligible for an Epic-M, so in order to raise enough money for it I am selling my Epic-X Stage 2 reservation, derived from my Red One #378 camera.

I've been thinking about the best way to do this, given I have a target in US dollars I need to reach in order to buy the M. I already have enough money to buy my Epic-X plus the accessories I want, so I'm looking to make up the gap via an auction in this thread to see if I can get the money I need, or if not, how close I can come. I have a price I need to meet so if that reserve isn't reached I cannot sell the reservation.

I WILL entertain offers which include a bid for both the Epic-X Stage 2 package to buy, plus a rental portion using the Epic-M as soon as I have it in hand, eg. you have a movie you want to shoot now and rent an Epic-M for, but you also want to buy an Epic-X for future productions. Do however note that regardless of the makeup of the bid (eg. 100% purchase for Epic-X, 60% rental of Epic-M/40% purchase of Epic-X etc), 100% of funds need to be put into my account at Red before the transaction can be completed, since I need to purchase the Epic-M before anything else can happen!

Here's what you are bidding on:

1x Epic-X Stage 2 reservation (derived from Red One #378) package, to be delivered to you once it is ready to ship from Red.

NOTE 1: There is NO Red One camera with this package.
NOTE 2: The Stage 2 Epic-X package is subject to change at Red's discretion. I have no control over the final makeup or shipping date of the package.
NOTE 3: There is a balance of US$13,250 due on this stage 2 package, to be paid within 30 days once notice of availability is received from Red. If the money is not paid within 30 days you lose the reservation. This is Red's policy, not mine, so no complaints.

What I'm looking for from bidders:

Give me a US$ price you are willing to pay me to buy the reservation from me. 100% of this price is payable immediately (you can deposit it straight to my account at Red to save time and international transfer fees) in order to secure the Epic-X package.

NOTE 4: You agree to pay the additional US$13,250 to Red once notice of availability is given as per note 3 above. This is your responsibility ON TOP OF THE BIDDING PRICE YOU PAY ME.
NOTE 5: I will draft up a lease/purchase contract outlining these steps for you to sign prior to accepting the winning offer, in order to do everything by the book per Red's Stage 2 upgrade policy.
NOTE 6: I reserve the right to cancel this auction if my minimum reserve price isn't met, since without it I won't be able to purchase the Epic-M and will have to fall back on my Epic-X package.

Please send your bids PRIVATELY to me via PM or email (mindmeld at visceralpsyche dot com).

And PLEASE.... if you are not serious about this offer, DON'T post.

Personal note: I'm looking to get Epic-M working as soon as it arrives, hence if you need one for your production, depending on the length of production, you might end up getting a Stage 2 Epic-X very cheaply if you meet the combined target price I need to purchase the Epic-M. I would be looking to accompany the Epic-M on the production in some capacity, be it DIT, operator or cinematographer. I'm willing to make a good rental price portion on the deal if it gets me the Epic-M so make an offer!

If you have any questions please post them here so everyone can read them and I don't have to repeat myself ten times to different people ;)

Ok, go ahead and make your bid/offer!

Cheers from Japan,

Paul

ADDENDUM 3 May 2011 (posted below for those returning to this thread):

Am going to simplify this even more to get the deal going:

Current bid pricing for early Epic-X Stage 2 packages seems to be around the US$30,000-35,000 + US$13,250 mark in this forum (via Ketch and others).

I need to raise around US$40,000 (+ US$13,250 to pay for whoever gets the Epic-X package) which is more than the price of current Epic-X's for sale. Hence my idea to make up the difference as an early Epic-M rental deal.

But I'm going to sweeten the pot to help move this quickly.

I will add in 2x 128GB SSDs from my Epic-M kit to whoever buys the Epic-X kit from me. That's US$3,600 in value added to the Epic-X kit.

So the only thing to decide for someone who wants an X and can use an M on an upcoming production now, is how much that early M rental window is worth. Add that to the price you think the X kit is worth (which is what you will OWN) and if it totals US$40,000 or more, you have yourself a deal (bearing in mind you still will need to pay the additional US$13,250 to Red when Epic-X is ready to ship).

Hope this makes sense! I think it's a good deal and you get the Epic-M to use now (with me in attendance to help as DIT or similar) plus you get one of the first Epic-X's ready to go, WITH two SSDs thrown in free from my M kit.

EXAMPLE bid offer:

Yes, I'm interested! I have a movie coming up I need an Epic for immediately, so I can offer you US$25,000 for your Epic-X Stage 2 package plus US$20,000 for the rental of your Epic-M package for one month.

That would mean a total of US$45,000 payable now, plus US$13,250 payable once the Epic-X is ready (of course this can be paid early if you wish), which would get you the Epic-M rental for your production plus an Epic-X package to own once it ships.

HTH!

Hi Paul.

Any success with this? I know the Epic-M email offer has a very limited time window.

I'm interested in what you are offering but need a little clarification to understand the value of what's being offered. I have lost touch with all the pricing details and specs for the Epic-X as they have changed and I wasn't eligible anyway.

The stage 2 offer had a rebate for users hanging onto their Red One right? $8500 if I'm right. Was that taken off the remaining price to pay or is that paid back as a rebate later & if so who to?
They were asking for $5000 deposit to reserve Epic X stage 2 right? The total package was $28,000 less the $8500 dollar rebate which made $19,500. For there to be only $13,250 left to pay you must have paid more than the $5000 deposit, $6250 by my calculations. Is this correct?
Of course the Epic-X stage 2 package is worth more than the brain only which will sell at $28,000 eventually if you don't qualify for any stage upgrades or are new to Red ownership, plus you get a bit higher up the queue for when they start shipping. I can only guess how far, but I think whilst RED say they have everything in place to ship in large quantities and fulfil all orders by the end of the year once the few vital parts that were supplied from Japan are re-sourced in quantity it will probably take a month or two off the wait at least.

So about $35,000 worth of gear including accessories in the package (maybe more?) with a few months advance on others getting it, - $13,250 left to pay (plus poss extra for SSD module jump from previous CF card spec) = which makes $21,750 gear value + whatever price you put on being ahead of the pack. Is my thinking near the mark here? (there are a lot of figures and assumptions along the way that may be wrong)
