  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

FS: Cooke 20-100mm T3 Zoom Lens with Case and Lens Support for 19mm Rods

How big is this lens? What is the length and diameter?

Why do some of these Cooke 20-100 go for about $14,000 and others about $4000. Do they all cover super 35?

I didn't see a buy it now on your listing Randy, I don't know if that was intended.

Hi,

The 18-100 's usually cost the most, the latest version the most.
If you take of the hard matte on the front of the lens there will be no problem with S35 1:1.85 FWIW they almost covers S35 1.33 depending on where the focus is set.

IMO, no 20-100 is worth $14000, in fact I don't think I would be willing to pay more than $5~$7K for one and even then it better be one of the latest revisions and in very good condition. If you start spending more than $7500, you're getting into 18-100 territory. I don't mean to pee in Randy's cheerios by saying that and potentially devaluing his auction, but that pretty much sums up the value of the older 20-100 design. Randy's lens looks to be in good condition and, the current auction price of $4K is a pretty good deal or so it seems.

The 18-100 has gone through a few revisions and I've seen prices range from $7K on up to $30K or more. Some used 18-100s are priced high enough that it makes more sense to just buy a brand new one. But even the latest revision of the lens is still a mid-80's design and little has changed over the last 20 years it's been in service. IMO, it's in dire need of an update and it's the last of Cooke's lens offerings that does not yet have /i data contacts on the current shipping models.

Don't get me wrong with what I just typed. The 18-100 is an old design, but it's a damn good design. It makes for very beautiful images. It's a very sharp lens and even holds up well when wide open at T3, the sweet spot seems to be T5.6. It's a very sharp lens and produces nicely saturated and very dimensional images. My 18-100 is my primary work-horse lens on my RED. Lately the 18-100s have become hard to find, just like a decent set of primes and prices are becoming a bit inflated.

The front diameter of the 20-100 is 144mm, if I remember. The 18-100 has a 150mm front diameter.

Hi,
someone already starting to bid on it, and once the bidding starts ebay will automatically remove the "Buy It Now" option. It was FYI $5500 USD. Thank you.

Randy you mention "serious bidders only" which I can respect, I just wondered if you had any comments on your negative feedback on Ebay.

As for the other auction, pretty lazy of the guy not to put full size pics up. Interesting setup up but with a seller with zero feedback it would make more sense to use an Escrow service otherwise the buyer may be S.O.L..
