Hello,

I'm selling a Canon 11-165mm Zoom. I have a few other long zooms, so I am letting this one go. Priced fairly at $6500.

The glass is in immaculate condition with no cleaning marks, scratches, dust, etc. It is also mechanically sound, with silky smooth zoom, focus, and aperture movements (see attached pictures -- scroll to second post of this thread to see additional four images).

This is canon's workhorse Super16mm zoom and has a wonderful reputation. Brand new these listed for around $19,000. Visual products has the older generation Canon 11.5-138mm listed for sale for a price of $11,850 and usually has the 11-165mm priced a bit more than that.

If you do a search on REDuser, you will see that another member has verified that this zoom nearly covers 3K 2:1 from 11-50mm, and covers it entirely from 50-165mm. And of course it goes without staging that it will cover 2K entirely. This is of course a great tool for using a particular sytle of shooting where it would be impossible to use a 35mm zoom. The Canon zooms are light weight and compact for there range. Obviously a great lens to have when the newer Scarlet's come out, as well.

I've also taken a photograph of the Duclos Lenses receipt, which verifies the service and serial number and gives you the comfort knowing the lens was inspected and serviced by a top lens shop. The lens has not been used in the field since the Duclos lens service.

I thought I would throw it up on REDuser before listing it on ebay. So if you are seriously interested in the lens, let me know as I will probably throw it up in a few days on ebay. Feel free to PM me.

If you are in the L.A. area, you are welcome to inspect the lens...

PLEASE NOTE: I will be keeping the "support ring" (around the center of the lens body), as I need it for another one of my Canon zooms. These are fairly light zooms, and I think most do not even use a support ring with them. I think most use this to attach a tracker for a zoom motor. Regardless, it is still a part you can purchase if you should need one.

Best,
Todd

The quote below illustrates the benefit of the newer Canon zooms: Pulling focus is much easier with an improved focus scale and longer throw. I want to say it is close to 360 degree throw, as opposed to a 180 on many lenses.

QUOTE:

"...Actually the 8-64mm Canon is bit older version of the newer twins, the 7-63mm and 11-165mm. The advantage of the later ones is the focus ring respectively it's scale. While the 8-64mm is bit difficult for pulling focus in the range between 2 to 5 meters of distance, cause those positions at the scale are too close each other; the later two ones are perfect in this case."

Also, the Canon zooms are known to cut very well with Zeiss Primes, and is another reason they are sought after.

... the lens has now been sold (via e-bay).
