Sold - thanks

I recently bought this matte box from a fellow Reduser, but it is simply too big for what we do. Great for impressing clients, makes the DP happy, and awesome Arri build quality. 3 filter trays make for a wide range of uses. They can all be rotated together. The swing away system is very nicely crafted. Hate to let go again. Just too darn big when I am working as a one-man crew.

This is not the current MB-14, but an older one. Arri logo on the side.

Asking: 2399 USD (what I paid)

NEW PRICE: 2200 USD

Here's the text from the original ad:

This is a perfect companion to a Cooke or Angenieux zoom and offers the largest most versatile filter size in common use. All of the pieces are in used but perfectly working condition.
Here's what's in the case...

1 Arri 6x6 3 stage rotating Mattebox with 15mm (Studio) swing away support
3 6x6 filter frames
1 zoom ring
1 Top eyebrow
2 side flags
6 hard mattes 18-180
1 ATA shipping case

This is about 1/5th the price of the current MB-14 kit and probably 1/3 the price of the upcoming MB-28.

Great price, Martin. Sadly, I just bought a 6x6, so I won't be making an offer.

It is a great price though it looks like a different version of the MB-14 doesn't it?
Is the eyebrow with the sides is one piece? As much as I use my Mb-14 the top is separate from the sides?
Also the lock of the swing away looks different from what I have.
PM me and I may buy it.

Hi Martin,

I'm interested. Please check your PM box. Thanks.

It's definitely older than the current MB14, probably eighties vintage. It says MB14 on the case though.

It looks like an M B-14 circa 1984 to me. Take a look at a Toyota Camry from that vintage v. one made today and you will see a lot more difference. Not to call this vintage mattebox an old beater like an '84 Camry as it looks in great shape, but you get the idea.

I put up some higher rez photos of the mattebox on http://abitofmagic.no/mb14

The top flag and side flags are indeed one piece, but adjustable.

If this mattebox is indeed from the good old 1980s, then it cannot have been used too much. Feels very solid, and should still be around when RED announces their 3D Bazooka Flux Generator :)

Imagine having a mattebox from the time when Michael Jackson still made music...

I believe the correct model is MB-12. Indeed circa 1984.
Nothing wrong with that. Just clarifying.
Cheers,
Harry

Harry,

I did a brief search on MB-12s, and the ones I found do not at all look like the one I have on hands.

Here is one MB-12 I found:
product_image.php

There are no sizes, but it does seem much smaller than the (supposed) MB-14 I have. Click here:http://ww.abelcine.com/.../image.php?productid=1000992 and then follow the link to Photos. Panavision has one for rent, and that is a 4" mattebox.

Previous posters have also suggested that it is indeed a MB-14. And as Evin said, it says "MB14" on the carry case. Unless someone had malicious intentions, I do not know why they would label the case wrongly.
