Wow now that's what I call a boat anchor best of luck selling that beast.
You are probably best off donating it to a film school. We are in a digital world.
Film is on it's way out. I'm sure you know that its no surprise to you.
Is anyone shooting film these days?

I have truly embraced digital technology and love it.

But as far as saying boat anchor, I do not know about that. I have great love and respect for film.
It's like when the Synthesize pianos came out, everyone thought it was the end of Piano, people would say "it's more affordable", "it has more functions" and it's much smaller".

However today their is nothing more beautiful than the sound of a baby grand piano.

In digital we are always striving to produce the analog feel.
But their are something that you simply can not produce, like the turn of page in a book, or when we listen to vinyl records vs. CD, or when we look at film.

But I feel now we have more tools, for us to express ourselves, digital is one of them and film is another valuable tool.

You are right that film is on his way out but this camera for $5000 is a very good deal even though it will end up much higher.
For someone who has a feature film lined up it is a must buy.

I might be interested in the lens light . . How much?
How would that power up on a Red camera?

That is not a boat anchor for sure. Film is not dead and won't die for a long time. Michael, I'll buy it for $5000 if you want to sell right away. I could definitely use it and I prefer shooting film over digital. Is this S35 or R35?, 4 perf or 3 perf?

Thanks,

Norm

This baby would be a dream to have for anyone. I second Norm and raise. I would gladly buy for more than 5 grand!

I used to rent the film stuff but now I own a couple of REDs. It's a no brainer!!!
I have a DP friend who has a 3perf movement for a 535B so let me know if you need it for micheal's camera unless Norm are you interested?
I also have lots of ground glasses and other goodies.

Mickey,

Your friend is selling a 535B with 3-perf movement?

I also own a bunch of RED's but I prefer to shoot film as much as possible and when possible. I believe the 535B is Roger Deakins camera of choice.

Eric, what's your bid? :)

N

Hey Eric, how's it going? I remember you because, you are the dude who went to lake forest...and then requested to use the restroom at the Red headquarters they turned you down and you had to jump in your car just to go to Mcdonalds to pee. Are you still bitter?

Norm, I'm just helping a camera friend in our industry. He does not have film camera anymore because he sold his camera with a 4 perf movement many years ago.
My friend has a 3 perf movement with film gate and all the different kind of ground glasss
So let me know if your interested. Thx. MC

A lot of folks are still shooting film and will continue to shoot film. It is NOT "dying" or going anywhere.

If I could, I'd snatch that 535 up. No thought necessary. And like Norm (and a lot of others), I'd choose film first anytime possible, hands down, no brainer.

Here in Norway, commercials, pop promos and documentaries pretty much have gone digital; but a large proportion of features are still 35mm. So no, film ain't dead, and if I had the cash I'd buy this 535 just to have it, it is a gorgeous piece of engineering.
