  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Friday's update

Except...that's what Jim said he would do, that the first 100 would be updated before shipment resumes. Of course, he can change his mind.

I must have missed that, but I would hope deliveries can resume while they change the boards on the first 100 cams, which obviously has to be done in accordance with the owners and the cameras' schedules. It's not like they can have all of the first 100 cams at once and do the change to all of them together. This board change is quite a big deal, not to be underestimated.

I give a big hand to Jim and the entire Red team, and wait as patiently as I can for my camera.

Cheers,
Damien

I thought the upgrade of 1-100 would commence at some point after 11/30 and had no direct effect on shipping the next batch of cameras. OK, now I'm searching for the post where I thought I read that.....

Edit> Here we go...

Jannard's post from 11/12/07

Shipping is scheduled to begin (after many hardware and firmware improvements) on Nov. 30th. We'll know by this Friday if we need more time or not. Improvements include a new lens mount system, less noise and higher data rate for improved dynamic range, new features and time to test. Several other minor improvements will also be made. We have also committed to bringing serial numbers 1-100 up to the new spec (at no charge to our customers). We also anticipate a few new formats, although they will likely follow in a firmware upgrade. We are doing our best to continue to improve the RED ONE. This effort won't stop as long as I am around...

I understand what the guys are saying about not getting through ALL of the older stock, but I am fairly certain Jim had indicated he would make a pass through all existing cameras before shipping new ones. Partially practical and partially as a courtesy to us. In talking with Brent and Kelly 3 weeks ago it was obvious that the plan was to get the 1-100 Reds in first, though perhaps they will do some kind of a parallel process.
