Hey folks!

I got a serious problem: I'am on production in Ireland and my Scarlet shutdown. I thought it might be the V-mount battery (Bebob Rouge), but as far as I can remember I had 28% of capacity left. I tried a new full battery and the scarlet booted again. I saw the test chart and the "improper shutdown warning", but the camera shut down immediately.

I tried a couple of batteries and removed all attached accessories: still the same. The camera starts but shuts down again. The time till shutdown gets shorter with every reboot. I don't have RedVolts or the power supply with me, so I can't test with them.

The camera is pretty cold, the ambient temperature is less about 15°C. Thermal issues can't be the problem.

As far as I can remember I've got the previous beta firmware (3.3.3?). It worked flawless for a couple of productions, so I did not update to the latest firmware.

Is there anything I can do? I wrote at http://www.red.com/contact_us, but not yet received an answer. My next day starts in 12 hours and we've lost 4 shots today.

Best regards,
Moritz

Without a alternate power-source there isn't much you can try and without the ac-adaptor i wouldn't do software flashing. So that would have been my first two attempts to look were the problem comes from. Leaves one thing that you can try: reset all settings to factory default.

Note that this can be done by holding down the power button for 15 seconds at boot. It is safe to let go as soon as you hear the fans go to 100%

I've tried to flash the firmware with a very fresh battery: the upgrade started but the camera turns off again after a few seconds. The time till shutdown gets shorter so today the upgrade does not even starts.
When I hold the power button the camera turns on with yellow power light. After a few seconds (still holding) it flashes green for a a second and then the camera shuts down.

BTW: I tried a second V-mount power supply. It's from my steady cam. Everything is different (cable, lemo plug, mount plate) but the behavior is the same.

Your batteries may no longer be able to sustain a high enough voltage under load to remain above the shutdown threshold. They may have just been on the borderline when new.

Hey!

I tried 6 different batteries and none of it acts different. The bebob I use are pretty new and all of the batteries worked flawless for a couple of productions. I'm pretty sure they are not the problem.
Red has my log file and is working on it. We will see.

Cheers,
Moritz

Having grown up in Ireland I can tell you that Irish people would do their best to help you. Do you have any locals on your crew? Check google.ie for rental places, maybe you can borrow/rent a diiferent power source to try out.

I had the same problem. Turns out that I had the mag in the camera. Once I pulled it out then booted up, then inserted the mag, everything worked fine.
Good luck.
