I just got a call from location. Some sort of problem. They're far away so I have to help over phone. Maybe someone have had the same issue:

What could cause a frame to freeze on playback/record? It freezes but the TC keeps rolling. It happens on the same frames and on same clips everytime on playback.

Appreciate some help.

They should take the clip into RedAlert, and if it's fine they should move on.

Playback has been problematic on previous builds, but playback problems should not be show stoppers if the raw footage is being recorded properly. So the main thing should be check the raw files and if they are fine, assuage the fears of your customers and file a bug report.

I've had a camera freeze on playback before with the newest build. But then the camera froze like a computer would. Nothing worked. This time the camera TC kept on rolling and only the playback image was affected. I can only tell what I was informed over the phone, but seems strange...

The problem is they are way up in the mountains traveling light with just a camera and some people shooting 2nd unit stuff of waterfalls etc. They can't check footage in RedAlert or reinstall builds until they are back. Just wanted to hear if there was anybody else out there who have had the same issue, and if it's just in playback... My guess is on playback anyway...

I had some problems with playback myself: when I tried to play back, it first did but then the image froze. TC did not keep rolling, everything was shut down. I could not exit the playback mode and I even couldn't turn off the camera. I eventually had to completely remove the battery to turn off the power and reboot so that I could start working again. Files are fine, but I was kinda worried anyway - I don't like to just remove the battery while the camera is running. Not at all... One other version: image just turned green on playback, then same thing. Luckily, no problems with the footage...

Same problem here a few days back.

We were shooting in a studio in utter darkness. We did a jib-shot and brought the camera down for playback. Picture froze, buttons didn't work, camera wouldn't listen to the power button. I had to pull out the cable from the power to be able to shut it down.
I took the hard drive to the laptop directly to check if the footage was hurt or not by the sudden shutdown. Luckily it was untouched and in good state on the hard drive. But also me don't feel good when having to choke the camera from power to be able to unfreeze the camera.

Any bug related problems here in RED? I really wanna go on set with a good feeling and be t ease with my footage.

Among several playback issues I have had, your problem sounds like dropped frames. Whenever the image freezes, those are the frames that were not recorded. If you have the issue again, check your LCD readout and see if there are any dropped frames reported.
