what is the cost generally for a 90min feature to be printed from RED to 35?
approximately $200 a minute to record to intermediate negative
$55 a minute for sound negative
$94 a minute for answer prints
$12 a minute for processing

i am not a lab and the processing and sound negative prices are passed on to you from the lab. i can adjust the picture negative recording accordingly to meet any budget.

How much is a machine like that - Is it a full photo/chemical process? or I suppose it would be an entire studio set up? - (sorry I never have seen one like that - which is why someone like me who has always done digital could appreciate this process)

- I always appreciate something which I can not do myself, or does not have as indepth knowledge in such a fine technical-art as this could be.

We use state of the art 2k/4k high speed film Recorders to print to 35mm negative. this is for the picture element. we use the labs for creating a sound negative, or optical sound track negative. We send the picture negative to the lab where they run the 35mm picture negative, and sound negative together to produce a new element that has picture and a sound track running down the side. your prints are striked and off to the theater you go in 35mm.

as far as the price well. i have 3 older slower celcos in storage. they are 20 seconds per frame and are good for vfx, end titles, main titles. just not a feature length.

a machine like mine will set you back approximately $400,000.00
they range from $250,000.00 - $600,000.00 for new 2k/ 4k recorders.
