We're doing a small shoot in Nice, France in a couple weeks. I had planned to bring a couple Lowel Rifa's and a 150k Arri for some simple interviews. Besides the off-the-shelf int'l adaptors, will I need an inverter or anything so I don't blow up my lights? I know their standard power is higher wattage than ours in the US, right?

Any advice? If I need to, I'll just rent there. But would love to know from someone who has done this before.

Thanks!

Kevin

The easiest thing is just put 230v bulbs in the lights.

Okay, cute, but not helpful.

Seriously, does anyone know if we need power inverters or anything else?

Thanks!

Seriously Kristen is funny and great. All power is 220-240volts 50 cycles. The plugs are different. Get the plug adapters and change bulbs and you are fine. OR save the shipping and rent a few lights in Nice. I mean it should be easier and cheaper. There are several Redusers in France to help. Kristen, for example.

Would be easier

I travel a lot between US and France and carry with me universal power for Dedo hmi, Joker 400 or Led pannels. Just change the adaptor and it works perfectly. I don't know what the Riffa are made off. I would not carry tungten light with me because they are heavy and need bulb in 220 V 50 (not so easy to find here). Also keep in mind that if your carry more than 2 x 23kg luggage the extra cost for your luggage will be more than renting those lights in France.

PS : don't forget to see the film "Brice de Nice" if you want to be "aware" of the City you will visit ;-))

We're in Paris but we have an Arri Softbank kit with one 1000W Openface and 3 650W Fresnel, in case you'd need it.

You can also rent some lights from Transpalux http://www.transpalux.com/

They have an agency in Nice. It would be easier than carrying your own kit.
