  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Foundry Storm...

I'm just finishing up a miniseries here (last weekend tomorrow) in Montréal and I'm giving Storm a test drive. Even though I'm pretty much always wishing for something, it's usually only a little something like a keyboard shortcut. It's been a pretty smooth ride.

Another STORM alpha tester here... There's still a long list of bugs to be fixed, but progress seems to be steady. The latest beta has been rather stable for me, not as stable as RC-X, but getting there. I love working in STORM, the real-time feedback of the histogram and scopes is the key feature here at the moment, the tagging and other aspects of the program are going to be huge as well.

Speed improvements will come as they do more optimizations and move from beta debugging mode over to a full release. STORM is going to be the best $350 anyone could spend on a R3D workflow tool.

Been playing with it with some old R3D footage and looks good, especially for using in the DIT process. I'm finding it a bit buggy, but hey, that's what Betas are for. I agree with Jeff, it's going to be the best £250/$350 spent in a while.

The Foundrys work is solid and there application rock so I expect big things from STORM as it develops.

Good morning Jim
Yep, Storm looks VERY promising!
I got my hands on it earlier today and have been running through older footage.
Seeing as they point to reduser.net for any questions or problems I have a feeling we can affect how the final product will be delivered.

So, Friday today... announcement day?
(I am sure everyone is waiting for that email for a certain Epic-M)

Can't wait for Scarlet so I have more opportunities to work with R3D footage and have a good tool to work with all the time!

The Foundry never disappoints. I am hoping they are also hard at work on a Camera Tracker module for the DCMC system ;) One that does real-time tracking and generates the appropriate data for a 3D track. Maybe includes a gyroscope and whatever else is necessary to give perfect tracker data? hmm? hmm?

The magic bullet style look presets are fantastic. So fast. There's still some conflict with RMD and the render capability is not at the top but The Foundry will get there. Riders on the Storm!!

I noticed it does not yet do REDCOLOR 2 and REDGAMMA 2. For this reason and a few others I feel like RCX is a more refined peice of software right now.

I hope this doesn't mean RED is getting away form RCX

RCX IS more refined - STORM is in public beta. RC2 and RG2 coming to Storm soon.

That's a big deal, really. RC2 and RG2 are too good to not use, but I'm so lusting after the monitoring in Storm. It might replace RCX for me when the new color science is integrated.

i really like the realtime monitoring of scopes as well and at same time as output from RR to another monitor.HOwever i seem to be having problems (knowing it's beta) with the red out on storm.
Additionally i like how EASY it is to just go back and forth from FCP and import the XML into Storm and send out to FCP...that is really ease of use. BUT sticking with RCX until storm is more stable as it's enough to have gotten all this way with RCX and know the ins/outs with not many issues at present. RC2 and redgamma are not high on my list to keep me off of storm, just stability at this point. I do hope that we'll see dramatic changes in next month or two at most to switch to storm.
