  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

FOUNDRY STORM to rock NAB!

Just to follow up on the Storm presentation at the vegas event, this was meant to be a tease/preview of what The Foundry was working on with this product. Whether it succeeded, time will tell. But this was definitely not meant to be an unveiling of the product. It's not at that stage yet.

I think it's safe to say, this product will need some time to be developed thoroughly and in the meantime, Foundry is able to say they are listening to what people want and they are trying to implement a tool set that delivers on many of those needs, creating a bridge between set and post and doing it at a price point that is in line with the current market.

I think patience will be needed on this one.....

And once Storm is mature and up and running, Apple will buy the app and will call it "Final Storm Cut"....They buy great apps and eventually let them die out..... :(

I know you're joking, but I think The Foundry actually cares more about their clients than that. They know they can't afford to fool around with support on the tools that thousands of artists are using under huge pressure every day. Unlike ehm... other companies.

Storm Nuke Roundtrip

It'd be nice if they could create some tools in Storm which write Nuke scripts, kind of like the way you can send shots from FCP to Shake. Nuke is pretty much taking over the compositing world, I am a huge fan. The ability to go in and out of NUKE with ease would pretty much make STORM the ultimate tool for FX editorial.

Storm does not need too many tools, just the ability to do basic grading and then send to Nuke when you want to do tracking and paint work.

I am doing a conform right now with FCP, clipfinder, Color and RCX. Tons of problems, lots of dropped and confused clips. A very difficult and unreliable workflow today, Can't wait for Storm.

Please give it AJA and DECKLINK functionality!

trimming R3D files isn't hard. I expanded my original truncator (set out point), to also allow an in point. The container for the encoded data is fairly straight forward. I don't have the SDK, and only hoped to be able to rename R3D files for fun.

The first software to do this was a python script, but the author was send a cease and desist. I can only imagine this was due to the open readable nature of python scripts.

I'm amazed we can't losslessly trim R3Ds already frankly, it requires almost zero processing power and can be done practically at the same speed your disks can pipe an R3D in and out, without a rocket card. I'm hopeful it will be added to Redcine eventually, but its over due for archiving footage IMO

While it might not be hard - I do believe it violates your SDK agreement. So if you are on SDK - then screwing with .r3Ds no matter how "simple" is not allowed.

Now I'd love the feature - but I also understand that Red want to be sure no one produces broken or fault .r3ds and thus gives a red pipeline a bad name.

- just my personal 2C

I think exactely the same here and i know i could see all around me people who feel the same!
