  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

fotoshoot risk

In December I shot a Survival Research Lab event and we used an industrial flash that was a couple of feet in diameter. Not sure how many lumens it put out but probably the equivalent of at least 100 studio strobes. Happy to report we had no issues with the sensors. Rolling shutter issues are another subject but I did find the epic handles it much better than a lot of other cameras.

Standard photographic flashes don't pose any risk to the sensor at all (although the rolling shutter issues with partial frame ilumination may well be a problem for postproduction if they bother you or the client!).

Really only lasers and possibly a static shot of the Sun held for extended periods, are dangerous to the sensor itself.

Won't be a problem at all. Four years of shooting Red side by side crazy amounts of strobe and zero issues, other than ugly rolling shutter of course.

Nah, no problem. Just to put it in perspective, the photons hitting your sensor from the sun can be 10 times more powerful than what comes out of a strobe. And the strobe only last 1/200th of a second (don't quote me on that). Just don't point it directly at the Sun or something that's acting like the sun, and you should be fine.

Of course it won't damage it. It would be illogical that a flash, created for the sole purpose of being captured by a sensor/film either indirectly or indirectly would somehow damage a sensor!
