  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Forged 6k Weapon and Carbon 6k Weapon Shipping Update

Props for sorting out the priority standing for those of us who put our $10K on the table for the 8K sensor in advance.

Would one be correct in assuming that once the 8K sensors are ready, that they will go first to people who both pre-paid - AND - threw down for the forged, then 2nd would be pre-paid and went CF. Each group sorted by time stamp?

Here is a question I don't think has been asked and not sure if there is an answer too yet.

If I buy a MG Weapon and later have the internal boards upgraded so that the MG will accommodate an 8K sensor will I pay more than if I buy the CF Weapon now (which of course is 8K ready) or in other words will upgrading the boards on an MG Weapon cost more that $15,000?

@Brent: I'm sorry, I haven't seen a clear answer to this. What's the difference in place in line/delivery estimates between New Carbon orders and Carbon upgrade orders? Thanks
 
I think i've read that they are both happening at the same time and are on separate assembly lines. so if your question is which one would get you a camera faster, it depends on how many upgrades v new orders and how long each process takes.

Brent, can 8K upgrades be converted to new CF Weapons instead of upgrades? Placed my 8K upgrade order during NAB and would love to keep the Epic and buy a new Weapon without losing place in line.

I'm thinking that the first batch will go to those who ordered at NAB, in the order they submitted their order/payment -- regardless of whether they initially take delivery of a woven or forged Weapon. Remember, at the time we all placed our orders in the wee hours of NAB, the forged weapon was the double top secret model that was supposed to be in seriously scarce quantity. It really wasn't even supposed to be a real order option other than for a few who were able to grab Jarred at the show and get the details or whatever. I wasn't there. My rep, and others I inquired with, knew nothing about it for a few weeks. And then once they did, it was still something that was a huge premium and they weren't even sure how I could order it, if it was really available and all that. Then I got busy and by the time I looked around again, Forged models were shipping out and there seem to be a lot more of them than there initially was supposed to be. In the end, it's probably for the best, at least for me. If it was immediately available when orders went online or shortly after, I probably would have spent $10K on something cool that I don't need. ;)

So I'm not stressing over it. I'd like my Weapon sooner than later, but I've been so busy with non-camera stuff lately that my Epic feels neglected and I really don't even need RED to ship me a new camera until 8K is available. But I want my 8K ASAP. Just because of, uh, reasons. Seriously, the 8K will be a huge step up for motion + stills workflow and some of the other things I tend to do. Jarred's last comment about forged getting priority almost had me calling my bomb rep with credit card in hand. Then I thought it through for a minute and that just wouldn't make much sense. Those of us who plunked down money at NAB for 8K are in the first batch. And I don't think we're a very big group. If I recall, the initial order window for 8K was a pretty limited time offer.
 
Hypothetically, if you place the order today for Forged, and it sticks to 4 weeks, is that when you get the call to drop off your existing camera for upgrade or does the 4 weeks include the time of RED holding onto camera and upgrading? If not, is there an estimated time of how long the upgrade takes while camera is at RED? Thanks

Of course, I suppose you could interpret as new orders, but since you can't order a Mg new, I would take it to mean upgrade. As in you can convert your existing upgrade from EPIC Dragon to Woven CF Weapon into Forged Weapon.

Heh, your reflexes are better than mine Stacey. I did just that and deleted my post, but not soon enough.

Interesting isn't it, that RED caught so much grief during NAB about how the Weapon was just so expensive that it would force, or even just push REDusers to things like ARRI on the one hand and BM cameras on the other in protest.

Now, an even more expensive camera model that was more of an afterthought is being bought in such numbers that they had to open up a separate line just to take care of the crush.

Jim, Jarred, Brent... accidental marketing geniuses. '-)

If “upgrade to FORGED” orders placed today are a month out, how much longer should the wait be for orders placed over 2 months ago?

Sorry, to clarify I'm talking normal woven CF in both cases here. (New carbon woven orders vs. upgrade carbon woven orders)

I 2nd this question. Anyone have an answer to it? Hopefully Brent could fill us in on that.
