  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

For those with experience with internal raid cards I need a some advice?

I looking forward to build a W7 desktop and will be using a raid setup inside the machine, and this time I need a some feedback on ATTO cards, thus far everything i have read is mostly about ARECA and LSI .

PS I probably go with 6 to 8 disk in raid 5 for the media drive, is ATTO any good for a setup like this, thanks in advance.

I use an ATTO R680. I have it hooked up to a 4-drive Raid 5 enclosure. This has the raid controller built into the PCIe card.

The H680 card just provides the interface.

Isn't that specific model an EXTERNAL one, i'm looking for info on an internal one only, thanks again.

LSI cards aren't well supported on Mac OS X, except for the 3ware brand, but otherwise a good option for a Windows system. Atto or Areca might be better if you're buying something newer and faster, and possibly want to install Mac OS X.

I'm using several 3ware 9750-8i and 9750-8e, I've been running them for couple years on multiple machines, some with Windows and some with Mac OS X (some machines are dual boot as well), so I currently prefer 3ware cards mostly for compatibility reasons. They're very robust and have performed perfectly.
