Just wondering if there are any Scarlet package orders that have received their side handle yet?

Personally I am dying to receive mine, I borrowed a friends(epic owner) side handle the last two weekends in a row. As soon as that side handle arrives I'm ready to pull the trigger on the four pack of redvolts, it feels great shooting so light.

Not that I've gotten mine, but to add a data point I ordered a side handle on the 3rd and haven't heard anything yet.

I have not received mine yet, or gotten an email.

Still waiting though...

Did you order yours as part of a Scarlet-X package, or separately?

I just placed an order for a Side Handle a few days ago, but I'm not expecting it to arrive until February (based on what I read in RED's last backorder update).

What about the people who placed orders for Scarlet Ti PL Mount Packages? Will they not receive anything (the brain) until RED has their Side Handle?

in a different post didn't Jared say "DSMC Side Handle - For all orders up till today- out of backorder Feb. " So, since there are side handles going out on Epic's etc, then i hope it shouldn't be too long. I hope to have my Scarlet before year end, and therefore, I am currently looking at other battery options like the Red Brick to power the Scarlet (other than the AC power cable) But I am trying to figure out if maybe a more standard AB battery will be better, so I can more easily use it for other things like LED lights etc.

What are other people doing till they receive their side handle?

Same exact thing I'm doing now. I just got through looking at a list of V-mount batteries and am thinking that I may just go with RED BRICKs. I've been looking through this thread to see what the most popular way people are powering their cameras is, and external brick-style batteries seems to be the common choice. As I write this, I'm trying to decide whether to use RED BRICKs or a Bebob system.

Recommendations anyone?

It seems to be a hot topic. The reason I am not going with the RED brick is because you have to declare them when traveling, that becomes a pain when you are packing for a shoot, and now you have to worry about dangerous goods.
The Bebos sound really good to me, specialy since when they go bad you can send them back to be recelled, a great point.
Andew Benz also sent me a link for the Swit batteries, the cool thing about this are that you can split them in half, so in theory they are safe for travel, or for carriers like FedEx.

I ordered it with my Scarlet-X package.

Since I originally intended to buy a Epic-X, I was waiting a little bit for Stage 4 to open, then the Scarlet came and it fit what I needed perfectly.

While it's true you might need to declare them, batteries under 300 Wh shouldn't be a problem. http://safetravel.dot.gov/larger_batt.html

I plan to travel a lot with batteries as well, and wonder if the TSA has training to read off the wattHr ratings from the sticker on the battery, or they weigh it, or ???.

Has anybody been hassled during the security check?

sorry to chime in, but is there an updated backorder list on the forum that i missed? would be great to see it. My rep told me my handle and my lcd screen would be what delays my order, so i expect a bit of a drag sadly.

They don't. Lots of times they don't care, lots of times it is up to you to explain. They almost always search, and often bring the supervisor. Once I explain it is usually cool.

I do it all the time with my LiPo helicopter batteries. Under 85WH unlimited carry on. You will get searched every time. I place them in the bin before the x-ray to make it easier on them, otherwise I have had alarms go off.

Over 85WH you may get hassled, like with RED BRICKS and have to explain. Your only allowed 2 and 1 in a device. If you are nice it shouldn't be a problem.

Also, you are not supposed to gate-check a bag that has lithium batteries in it. Very few gate agents know this. It can be a big hassle if your on a regional jet.

Other countries, especially flights destined for the U.S are completely bonkers. They have various rules, and even worse, they have various interpretations of U.S TSA rules if you are bound for the U.S. I would be very cautious in that situation, and ship spares or have a backup plan. I ALMOST lost ~20 lipos (like $4k in batteries) in Mexico flying to D.C. Took over an hour to explain and convince that it was ok. Could be a real issue if you were on your way to a shoot.

We ordered and just received an AB Gold mounting system from wooden Camera that is really of high quality. You can also check with batteriesforbroadcast.com for a very nice AB Gold compatible batteries at really competitive prices. We use a two battery charger with two 150Wh batteries (about 2.5 to 3 hours life on Scarlet) that only cost us $1000.

Thanks for the link, been contemplating going with the AB battery mount from wooden camera. The added weight is the only thing holding me on the fence.

We have two Scarlets on order... one we intend to run lightweight with the Redvolts for handheld, jib and slider shooting and the other in more of a "studio" configuration with rails, shoulder mount, Red touchscreen & external Marshal monitor, etc for shooting on sticks and dolly.

The Wooden Camera mounting plate and AB adapter are light as a feather, but the AB batteries are definitely a little on the heavy side for handheld applications, do-able, but nothing like the Redvolts. On the plus side, the way we have our rails setup (stuff from Wooden Camera and others), the camera is just barely forward of your shoulder when mounted and the AB battery weight is not really noticable since they are almost directly above the shoulder. With the shoulder rig, the added weight isn't really too much of an issue and you gotta love 5X battery life over the Redvolts!

We are certainly very happy with the quality of accessories we have received from Red and the service on those orders has been top notch. I must also say the exact same for Ryan at Wooden Camera. Everything machined and coated to perfection and prompt shipping and answers to questions! Good luch figuring it all out... I'm sure you are like us and would love to be able to put it all together!

I've had my side handle for months now. Ordered on the 30th of august. Just waiting on either an Epic or a Scarlet to be delivered. Currently rented out to a fellow reduser who does have his Scarlet.
