  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

For those on the fence: A (unique?) perspective from a newbie

If I'm being honest with myself, I would be fine with a RAVEN. I don't "NEED" the olpfs, interchangeable mount, or an upgrade path right now. Plus, coming from micro 4/3, the crop factor / FOV is less of an issues for me. However, the point of investing in myself is create a better future where all of these options may play a roll. So if I can swing it, I'm going to stick with the Scarlet-w package.

I also think starting wth a Raven package, and then selling the brain and moving up to the scarlet-w later on is a viable option as well.

I'm in an interesting position, to use the student pricing or not. Cause if I do I can't sell my Raven brain I think for 2 years. Without student pricing I can sell whenever and then upgrade to Scarlet. Guess I'll buy the accessories with student pricing and pay full price on the brain just to give myself options moving forward.

Peter is right on!
I shoot on 5D now and have been for 4 years. I rented the BMCC (2.5K) for a green screen shoot for a friend and I did not like it at all. the form factor is awkward. Now the image I got out f it was pretty good but I can't see myself making it my A or B camera.

When RED took the bold action to reach out to people like me and my budget, it was a no brainer for me. I had resigned myself to buy a C-300 Mk1 because I could not afford the C-300 Mk2 for a long while. So when RAVEN appeared I thought, man I can get a camera which will improve my shooting several folds and be part of an incredible company who prides itself on being on the bleeding edge, delivers incredible quality with a great customer service and dialog with its customer. For me, this is where the value is.
Now, I make my own doc films so I don't care about (at least now) the marketability of owning a RED camera.

Shot on 5D Mk2 and Mk3. people seems to like what I did but I want to learn more
