Hey Everyone! So I'm renting out my RED Scarlet X with the full package listed below. I dropped prices considerably because of the holidays. Doesn't seem like I'm getting too many hitters. I think this package for 350/day is friking cheap! Im going to Craigslist, mandy, emailing a lot of dp's and posted ads at colleges. Any reason why I've only had 1 client so far this month? I mean no replies, no calls, nothing. here is the package I have below. Thanks for you help.

RED Scarlet X
DSMC SSD Side Module
4 Red Mag (64 GB)
2 Red Bricks with Battery Charger
Red BackPack and V-Mount for Bricks
Red Station
Top Handle Kit
Red Pro 5" Touch LCD
AC Power Adaptor
Follow Focus
Red Pro Matte Box
Red Clutch Shoulder Rig

Rail Support
Manfrotto 504 HD Tripod Kit
Zeiss 3 Lens Set (21mm,50mm,85mm)
Camera Operator or DIT

Everyone has a camera source they know and trust. Low price deals don't encourage them to leave that source--be it a friend or rental house--they remind them why they stay loyal. Having everything one needs, and not just enough to "get by," is worth more than getting a cheap deal. Trust > Gear.

In other words, you could go out there and replace half of your kit, and still attract 0 clients... it's not about what you're missing, it's about getting to the right people. Say for example you work as a data wrangler for a DP who works a lot. Lets say for whatever reason he really appreciates your work and you guys hit it off. Say he has low budget personal project and you mention you have a camera--he rents it from you, likes the kit and keeps coming back. He recommends you to a friends, bam, you can pay your rent with that! Mandy, CL, etc is a dead end. Busting your ass off working for talented people, thereby earning their respect, is kinda the only way to do it.

But only because you asked, here are a few reasons I would avoid this kit:

* No 28, 35, or 40mm lens. This is so critical--these are the focal lengths that feel natural and intimate. 50 and higher you're observing someone. To be stuck between a wide angle and a 50 forces you to paint in broad strokes, either wide or close. I would sell your clutch and get a 35mm.

* Manfrotto Tripod. It works, in the way a kalashnikov works.

* Unnamed follow focus--this is a big one. Every AC wants Arri. If they're bold and curious maybe they'll tolerate an OConnor or shipshape Chrosziel.

* 64G SSDs. Not a deal breaker, you're swapping film mags just as fast (or Alexa 32G cards), but somehow in some people's minds 64 says "low budget."

* No monitor for AC or director (not "required" but everyone wants one so...)

</end brutally honest, hopefully helpful, overly long post>
