Hi all,
What with the economy being what it is, I am looking to sell my Red One and base production back, battery charger, 2 bricks, 320 gig Red RAID, 2 x 8 Gig CF cards, Nikon Mount, Cheese plate, LCD. It also has the RED pelican case for storage.
Condition is excellent and we have only used it on a couple of shoot and have never rented it out.
I'm looking to see what interest there is out there Reduser land.
Please feel free to email me directly at ross at marsprod dot com or pm me if this is something you'd seriously consider.
If I have posted this in the wrong place my apologies,
Sincerely,
-Ross

Hi Van Din,
To be honest, at the moment I am looking to solicit interest at what is a reasonable rate. While I realise that sounds totally vague, I believe it is worth at least USD 25 000.00 and I would be interested to look at that range. I am very open to advice as well. I must say that I never thought this was something I expected to sell ever but needs must as the saying goes.

Curious how it's worth "at least USD 25 000.00" when even after adding $200 for an assumed drive cable to everything you have listed, I only come up with $24 650 or so worth of stuff if you figure buying all that gear new from RED???

Of course, if you sell it locally, you can probably ask that much as anyone else in your local area will have to pay import taxes / duties if they were to buy a new one. If you sell to anywhere else in the world, they will have to pay such on the purchase whether they buy from you or buy from RED. So if you want to get anywhere close to $25K out of it, you will have to find a local buyer I think.

Take $8k-$10k off your bill and you might sell it. RED's are not precious metals any more, the days of selling them for what you paid, let alone more than you paid are over.

Sorry.. Sucks I know, but that's the reality.

Geez, Jay. . . show me one RED that has sold with all those extras for $14,000 and I'll eat BOTH my REDs. That's a ridiculously low price. I'll bet it would bring $19,000 on Ebay.

Stephen

You haven't seen it because it hasn't happened yet. $19,000 would be a steal for this and that's probably the most realistic lowest price to sell it for, otherwise you might as well keep it. But I could see this going for roughly $21,000 to $22,000 depending but that's all on the seller.

You might have more luck selling the accessories seperately from the body but, then again, a lot of people are looking to buy into deals at this point. RED is at full production so why buy used when you can buy new?

thanks for the great feedback so far...

Hi all who have replied so far.
I really appreciate the debate and the considered thoughts.
As I was looking for considered thoughts on the topic I really appreciate them.
Realistically I am looking at (based on this thread) at around $22-24 000 (assuming a number of factors I know)
That sounds feasible and realistic to me and I appreciate the feedback. So if anyone has any interest in that ballpark I would be very happy and interested to have a discussion around thanks
Thanks again

I am affraid he is right on the nail. Why bother when new with guarantee is only a few $ more. 24k, forget it. Its more like 16 to 18. Same with lenses. The days of making a lot of money on lenses are sooner over then people might think. There is a hughe market looking for lenses, ( including me ) but no way the want to pay 300% more then a few years ago. Its just a matter of time. I would be happy when that day arrives, so the golddiggers have to look for other ways making a fast buck

Now that brand new Red's are shipping today, the price for a used model should be in line with a comparably priced automobile. Yes, the supply/demand numbers are much higher, but the ratio is probably very similar. That being said, a year-old 25K vehicle can't expect to garner more than 17-18K in the marketplace. My comparison may not be entirely accurate - if so, please explain. Best of luck with your sale.

A month ago I had a R1 body for 12.000USD offered to me. Totally legit. In primo condition. The guy used it for a feature shoot & then wanted to get rid of it & use the cash for another faze of production. He loved the camera & said it performed without any problem.

He wanted to get rid of it fast with minimum hassle. I had first refusal.

With the economic plunge & rental prices bottoming out I decided instead to rent for now.

There is a short window now with R1 direct availability & Scarlet on the horizon. The delay keeps the value a float. Once that delay is sorted the prices will fall through the floor & you won`t be able to give them away for anything more than 10.000Usd ( IMO )

This has nothing to do with performance or the camera it has to do with supply/demand + progress & shifts in market.

What is the Serial #?

EDIT- Serial#740

Sorry, forgot about the Public Profile

PM Sent.

Can you post pics? I have sold stuff and pics help a ton

Can you be more specific about the package?

Ad says "full kit + Nikon Mount" does this mean it also has PL Mount?

HAs Red Drive and CF Cards... do we assume you have CF module?

Thanks

This has been really helpful to reset my expectations. Thanks for all the feedback people. Really appreciate it.
Thanks again

Pic without Red RAID

Pic without Red RAID

Hi all,
I've had a few questions in PM about an actual list so I thought I'd mention it here as well as attach an image. Please note the image doesn't have the RED Raid or Nikon Mount attached. (Thats pretty obvious but I thought I'd mention it.) But for now I think its a start.

Red RAid
Red RAID cable
Red Branded Camera Case
Base Production Pack
Red Flash (CF) Module
Red Cheese plate
Red Rod, SS (12")
Top Mount
Side Handle
Red Power Pack (incl 2 x Red Bricks)
Compact Flash 8 GB
LCD Cable
Red LCD
Nikon Mount
Red One Body Serial 740 (incl PL Mount)

Thanks again to everyone who has shown interest and helped me set my expectations.

Also The audio upgrade hasn't been done yet. I was hoping to find a buyer, Fedex it off to the US for the audio upgrade and then have it find its way to its final owner once that is complete. But perhaps thats not realistic.

(first time I've attached a file, hope it works)

Anyways I hope this helps,

-Ross

Other than not having a new audio card, does anybody see drawbacks to this package being serial number 740? Does no audio card mean unusable audio for this camera till it gets updated? I understand that I can transfer the ownership. thoughts?

Most people think sub 200 or even sub 150 are the "desirable" serial numbers ONLY if you plan on an EPIC X upgrade. If not, then Serial number is no big deal.

Audio board is just an upgrade to address some well discussed issues on these boards.
Try the SEARCH feature and read up on the audio stuff.

The REAL question... IS THIS going to ongoing trend (the SALE OF RED ONE's) as the economy worsens??? Especially people who own 2 or more.

If YES... that may obviously drive the resale price even lower. Just depends on how patient you are.

Jay, i dont agree either with you either...truth probably is if he knocks 8-10k you wont sell it but you'll buy it, as would I...

ross 25,000 is probably what its worth, but as you stated you are in a global crisis so some flexibility is recomended, but not much!!
