Hi there,

I shot some footage under low lighting conditions (filmed without lighting kit) at a small music festival (indoors & outdoors) in apple pro res 24HQ. The ISO was at 800 on average, so not too high. The footage looks overly sharp and noisy, it already appeared somwhat like this on screen whilst shooting and post export on my mac. Has anyone experienced anything similar? Or has anyone any advice on how to avoid this in the future/how to correct this?

I'm editing with premiere pro.

I've added some stills of a few shots as well.

Any help/advice would be greatly appreciated,

Cheers,
W

can't see the stills but be advised if you had the monitor sharpening on it will be burned into the prores file

sounds like this is what happened

fyi prores is cleaner than r3d

Yup, I learned the hard way.. Don't use monitoring sharpness with ProRes! It's not just for monitoring (like focus assist does) but will be baked into the file (irreversible)..
I think the sharpness setting should be moved from the "monitoring" menu and better put under something like "ProRes Record Settings", to avoid any confusion.

The 4K ProRes is the most affected by the oversharpening noise, the 2K is more usable even at 100% sharpness setting.

Thanks for this, definitely learned the hard way too... surprised this seems to be a common issue. Any advice on how to make the footage appear less noisy & sharp in premiere pro? Othern than using any blurs?

This confused me for a second until I noticed you owned a Scarlet-W. The Raven does not capture 4k ProRes.

I made some footage whithout monitoring sharpness, but it is the same problem. I can not explain what I am doing wrong here?

Hi Bob,
no problems with red code R3D 8.1, only problems with Apple ProRes 422Q, 422, 422LT.
W

Hi Bob, by using the red codec the footage turns out fine.
I updated my raven today with the new firmware 7.0. Voilia and apple prores seems to be working out fine, the output sharpness can now be set to 0%.
