  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Footage from China!!

Wow, stunning, congratulations not only on some terrific imagery but on such an incredible life experience. How many people can say they've done that! I'm green with envy!

This pic sums up alot about the shoot. It's the Villagers watching themselves on monitor for the first time playing the roll of ... you guessed it, villagers. Here's a quiz, study the facial features and see if you can guess which one is an actor.

Looks great Tim! The footage looks beautiful! But I most of all can't wait to see the film. I am very curious to learn about the relationship between the teacher and the village, and I hope it is a thorough and objective study of the cultural differences. A wonderful subject. I wish it were me taking this on!!

Best of luck to the film through post.

And the footage looks beautiful!!

While much of it is an "initiation" story for the teacher, much of it focuses on the compromises the Village Head must make to have a teacher at a time when the young and educated were leaving to the cities and not coming back. It also depicts traditional Mao era agrarian culture against the incursions of modern culture.

(Sorry Tim, I finished writing my earlier post while you were replying)

That sounds great! And it is coming through in the visuals. Practically everything about it is drawing me in with great force. I only hope my slight worry regarding the strength of the American lead is mistaken. But I simply can not wait to see this film. I am positively jealous.

No need to worry about the American. He definitely held his own, playing the innocent abroad, speaking in his bad Mandarin. No easy role, he pulled off the sincere yet often cluelessness one experiences when dropped shipped in a foreign country.

My biggest concern is finishing up the kids footage before they grow up too fast. We head back in March.

The young girl in the burgundy top.

By the way ... the footage is absolutely beautiful, Tim.

Tim, lovely footage! Thanks also for the honest and interesting writeup on the Chinese film methods compared to the Hollywood style.

I'm headed to Shanghai to shoot my scifi short "Maria" in S3D once I get Epic so it's great timing!

Tom, let's chat.... I'll be in need of a phenomenal DP as I've decided to concentrate on the directing job in order to keep myself as focused as possible (pun intended) ;)

Cheers,

Paul :)

Paul, if you are shooting S3D in China, then you may want to use the Atom rig and the EPICs that we hope to have shortly after NAB 2011. Let me know - Lim

I'll gladly go back in a heartbeat.

Hi Lim, thanks for the info. I will be bringing two Epics myself but I'll definitely be in need of an Atom rig, so I'll be in touch once we get closer to production.

Cheers,

Paul
