Hi all

I am having a nightmare editing my red proxy files. When i play the sequence it play fine (having been rendered) but as soon as i stop the screen goes green and splits in two.

I have edited 3 short film this way and all has been fine then all of a sudden this happens!!

I have all the latest updates for FCP and red but have been working on this for 2 days and have no idea what to do now!! It seems like the footage is corrupt but the QT files are fine and when i export the sequence at current setting the file it creates is fine but this is hell to edit from as in the viewer and canvas it is green!!!

The footage was shot 4k and i am using the H proxy files.

Here are my sequence settings:

2048x1152 (custom 16:9)
Pixel Aspect Ratio - Square
Field Dominance - None
Editing 25FPS
Compressor - Apple Pro Res HQ

Thanks for any help in advance

Hi there
I've had the same problem, using the new plugin and ingesting media via FCP's Log and Transfer.
I would recommend using the older route of making lower res editing proxies using Red Rushes and just importing them as files into final cut, or you can use the native ones generated by camera as well.
This problem with the canvas only happens to me when I bring in media via log and transfer.
Hope this plugin bug gets fixed soon!

I have the same exact problem.

I used Clipfinder to bring in my H proxies into FCP.
Everything PLAYS fine, except when I STOP or SCRUB the timeline, it will look like this:
weird.jpg

It seems to come and go. When I restart FCP, it's fine. Then it starts to do this. Then it goes away, then it comes back, etc., etc., etc.

What I have noticed is that it doesn't do this in the Viewer, only in the Canvas window.
Which means it has something to do with the timeline or sequence settings and not the actual clips themselves.

I followed the white sheet and my sequence presets are as follows:

2048x1024
Pixel Aspect Ratio: Square
Editing Timebase: 23.98
Quicktime Video Settings: Apple ProRess 422 (HQ)
Enable 4:4:4 chroma filtering: ON
Render 10-bit material in high-precision YUV: ON
Unlimited RT
Scrub High Quality
Playback Video Quality: Dynamic
Playback Framerate: Full

OS X: Leopard 10.5.6
Final Cut Pro 6.0.5
REDCODE QT Codec v3.5 INSTALLED
RED Final Cut Studio Installer INSTALLED

Any help or advice?

FURTHER DEVELOPMENT:

Instead of using ClipFinder to drop and drag the H proxies into my FCP project, I used the Log & Transfer window to transcode one clip to Quicktime ProRes422 HQ.

Now when I put that clip on the timeline, the vertical green bars are permanent, regardless of pausing and playing. If I open the original file outside of FCP, it plays fine.

So this has all got to be a bug regarding the RED Final Cut Studio installer...maybe even more specifically the Log & Transfer plug-in.

I have heard that QT 7.5.6 has problems with FC 6.0.5. I went back to QT 7.5.5.

Do not know if this is the problem since I am just now starting with my Red One but it did have problems with my EX1.

Actually now I imported the Medium proxies from Clipfinder instead of the High proxies and there doesn't seem to be a problem anymore.

Maybe it was a processor/memory problem?
I'm running on a Quad-core 2.66 Ghz with 4 gigs of Ram.

Hi All

My problem was purely down to my graphics card - i upgraded this and all is now fine.

I have the same problem on my Mac Pro. The strange thing is, when I open the same files in my MacBook Pro they work fine in FCP.

Not just on Red

Not just on Red

We hit the same bug today but our footage is all ProRes 2k footage instead of Red proxies.

I've trashed the following prefs. We'll see if that fixes it.

/Users/yourname/Library/Preferences/com.apple.FinalCutPro.plist
/Users/yourname/Library/Preferences/Final Cut Pro User Data/Final Cut Pro 6.0 Prefs
/Users/yourname/Library/Preferences/Final Cut Pro User Data/Final Cut Pro Obj Cache
/Users/yourname/Library/Preferences/Final Cut Pro User Data/Final Cut Pro Prof Cache

If I don't post any updates on the subject, it worked.

This problem is related to playing 2K and your video card. The lower end video card has trouble with the 2K playback in proxies and ProRes. There is another thread that addresses this in the Apple forum, I believe they have all the graphic cards model #s there.

Any idea where this thread is? I was having no problem until I updated to 10.5.6 (from 10.4.11) which is a bit baffling. I've got the exact same problem both with proxy files and converted prores files from RedRushes.

Cheers,

Alex

My ultimate solution was to buy a new beefier video card. I popped an Nvidia 8800 in the MacPro and haven't seen any more green video glitching.

Like someone said earlier, the video card is having to scale the 4K, or whatever large size footage, to make it small enough for you to view on your screen at like 30%. After doing that for a while, the graphics card overheats. My stock card didn't have a fan, just a heat sink. Once it got hot enough, it'd punt and just go green.

So far, so good on the 8800.
