  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Foolcontrol + Optitron2 + Movie-Slate + laboGAMP

Trying to get to go to Cliff to finalize Movieslate for automatic camera metadata, but in case I cannot make it... (and this is totally without backing from Cliff)

Who would borrow a developer a camera with EF mount and a lens to the Movieslate Developer for let's say a lifetime of the app's free upgrades?

It can allready read all camera metadata live, and he has started to implement keyframing of frame-accurate metadata like focus pulls and aperture changes.
But I still see the need for hands on testing.

I will maybe make it to work with him for a week.
And I can really see how this could fit in with the OMOD in a lot of workflows.
But: Please borrow this hero a camera for a while.
It does not conflict with Foolcontrol or other apps I have seen. I can litelarily give movieslate to a fresh or experienced clapper without many hazzles and make it work.
I just need the automatic metadata capture on keyframe to work 100% and this app is a godsend.

So who is up?

I am for a week.

Next?

(I can also promise access to the software - not hardware - we are developing to anyone up to borrowing Cliff a cam for a week or more. If you can borrow him a Hotlink: Great, but I think I can arrange that too.
There is sooo much potential in this software, he just needs to debug what he's already done)

So: A big shout for Cliff (And if anyone else sees the potential: Please lend him a cam!!!)

PM me if you do not wanna go public. I am in.

Is it Dragon only? If not our Epic could join in. Our Dragon is in Lofoten and I'm not sure when it will return

Today finally had the right setup to have it all running. Movieslate automatically sync'ed to camera and recording camera metadata, Optitron controling focus/Iris, foolcontroll dealing with "the rest".

This setup has kinda infinite potential with their different user and tech-focus, if the metadata is brought further into post.

I can also see the Omod and C-motion integration fitting right in here for non-electronic lenses.

The future looks bright.

And the FLOW application is developing nicely.

Do you still need a camera to help move this forward Gunleik?

Work moves forward and we're on target for beta-release to partner.

the functionality has been feature locked for first beta-release, and LABOflow (which probably will change name) will go out on sets not controlled by us next week.
Milestone.

As to a broader public beta test, we want that, but we need to set up a good framework around it to make it productive for participant and us.
Documentation.
Feedback...

It's been extremely stable (I have used it since May), but still I need to do some writeups and probably make some uservideos.
And it is also the question if we should do some GUI work before the first beta-release.

What it initially is, is a very smart copy/structure/ingest tool, that can sync audio and send logging projects to Premiere.
If you use movieslate with TC (even internal TC is good as long as it is in the region of the set TC), we can structure that project with bins for each scene, and separate bins for what doesn't match (due to varispeed, lack of movieslate entries or whatever)

You can do multithreaded copying from several sources to several sources, get checksums. And it will not overfill your disk.
It has "large user" functionality, but I can use it myself everyday.

And it's fun and fast and can sing and dance!

Features will then be added rapidly as they are ready for release.

Just a reminding teaser:

(No GUI work and no demonstration of the "copy" or "Movieslate integration" here... busy days)

Exciting

Doing some comparative tests here between GAMP, SIlverstack and R3D data manager.

Copying from 1.8 mags over eSata to SAN
MD5 verifaction.

1 or multiple destiantions. non parallelized tasks (just for one project):

GAMP: Baseline: 100% time
Silverstack: 135% time (35% slower than GAMP)
R3D Data: 188% time (88% slower than GAMP)

We're fastest... :)
(+ we do a lot more)

With larger magazines/faster SANs/RAIDs the difference increases (if you copy to a RAID/SAN)

Another huge shout to Cliff and Movie Slate!

Some great new features (in addition to the automatic TC-sync'ed metadata recording) in his Movieslate 8.
Killer system for multiple departments on-set.

Next week will be quite a few beta-deliveries that will go into production.

Then a week in NYC and talk a bit with Frame.io and Offhollywood.

This project is moving on, and as we are phasing into a rather large external production over the next 4 months (24 episodes) and we reached a lot of milestones yesterday, I just want to share a logo- idea for the workflow app we're working on:
GAMP

We hit so many milestones yesterday, that it felt like a day at the domino-park.

But those don't belong to this production.
