  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Can anyone explain how fool control app works with the new DSMC2 bodies with Wifi? I read that I can wirelessly control the IRIS and pull focus from the app. Does this work on Canon L glass without a follow focus system?
 
Fool control is magic. Haven't tried it on the dsmc2 yet, but it should be even more awesome. Don't need a follow focus ring, it does it all from the app via electronics in the canon lenses
 
i got to try it on my friend's brand new weapon body yesterday. it is pretty impressive but yes it needs to be lens on an electronic camera. But to me the magic of fool control is the camera controls and the access to meta data.
Ideally im always optimistically shooting on pl lens
 
Does the lens have to be in autofocus mode? Will it control a manual only L lens too (i.e. the TS-E 17mm for time-lapse architecture work.
 
If it is a manual only lens, I don't see how Foolcontrol could give you remote focus ability...it needs the AF motors to accomplish this. Not sure if an AF lens has to be in autofocus mode to work remotely or not, perhaps someone else could chime in on this?
 
Ya if the lens is autofocus it has to be in the autofocus mode. There are ways of using manual focus lenses with foolcontrol with the red wmd system, rtmotion, and Offhollywood with the rt motion option. That way you can use a hand controller or thumb controller on manual focus lenses to control fiz and use the app for camera control. (Or the wheel in the app to control focus)
 
yup, rack focus with different points or do it manually via the wheel. Mikael has done an amazing job. Check out his demo videos

I wanted precise control, but it was like trying to play Slope Game uphill with a broken joystick. Getting the right adapters and controllers was a real puzzle. Then I knew I needed to follow the guide carefully.
