Can anyone recommend a good follow focus for the RED ONE? I'm aware of the Arri ones and they look superb, if a bit pricey. Just wondered if anyone had discovered any gems that would be a good alternative to the ARRI offerings?

Cheers

Chrosziel offers several follow focus systems with virtually zero backlash — Zero backlash will provide precise focusing.

Yeah also keep in mind that with the FF-4 the smart side wheel can come off, which can be a life saver in certain situations. I'd stick with Arri unless you just need a temporary solution. A bad FF will slow down the pace of an entire production. It's a false economy to skimp on items so integral to making your day.

Isn't RED coming out with a FF? Seems like I saw one of the Renders with a FF that had the RED logo on the back. Will look for it.

You can see the RED logo on the back of this FF, but I haven't heard any announcement about it.

Arri FF4 all the way. I tried to save money by going a different direction, but finally caved last month after a year and a half of using cheap or alternative methods for pulling focus. It makes your focus puller very happy because they're using the absolute best tool for the job, and if there's one thing that can't be fixed in post, it's focus. Save for an FF4. Go cheap on the mattebox if necessary (though i dont recommend that either :)), but get the FF.

What do you think of Arri LFF-1?

Any disadvantage (other than the price) to the FF4?

If you want a high quality lightweight FF that works with all types of cine lenses

and also can have reversing feature for Nikon and Leica still lenses then you could choose

ARRI Mini Follow Focus MFF-1.

Fork out the extra cash to buy an Arri. My second choice would be Chrosziel. I've tried almost all the low cost alternatives and they're just not worth the effort.

I have both an Arri FF-4 and I've had an MFF-1 now for about 2 weeks. All I can say is they are both great. I think I prefer the MFF-1, especially looking forward to Epic/Scarlet and smaller configurations. The FF-4 is better though for studio type setups. The MFF-1 is great for handheld or more mobile setups, less bulky gear to pack along with you if you're carrying gear.

Thanks for all of the replies guys. Much appreciated.

So, Arri is definitely the way forward it seems so that's one box ticked. Now, I've just had a quote for a FF4 in the UK which came in at £4,300 which equates to about $7,200. I knew they weren't cheap but I wasn't quite expecting that.

Can anyone recommend a good place to buy?

Hi All!

I making a Follow Focus right now, this not the copy cat, but I promise you won't disappointing... there are some other great gears coming out soon, like the EVF mount that I design earlier last year, it gonna be on the market shortly too...

Get another quote. $7200 is nearly double what I paid for my FF-4 kit 2 months ago.
