  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Folks seem testy!

Michael,

Are you suggesting that RED has it's customers so afraid of them that they won't complain about stuff?

Is there a single story of RED "making someone pay" for not staying in line. What do they have, some kind of hollywood "blacklist"?

Is this for real or just a conspiracy theory?

Gets weirder all the time here.

I'm not sure how you turned that into a "real or conspiracy theory" question. I'm not suggesting anything other than exactly what I said, and don't really appreciate the implication/association.

After reading several thousand of his posts, it seems to me that Jim is pretty precise and careful about what he says. Since he puts that reservation in every one of his posts, and more importantly he has a VERY compelling product coming with thousands already in line, it doesn't seem likely that many would push the envelope to find out when one might be "crossing the line".:smile5:

There's quite a change in attitudes since these days about four years ago:

Check out post #8 in that old thread..a psychic hit the Scarlet price
5 years ago..hehehe..he knew HDR increase was coming..:)

Sometimes it seems that those adverting of these powerful cameras want to stop the enthusiasm of regular cameras as Panasonic Ag-Hvx200, we know people want a powerful cameras like Viper filmstreem or Cinealta at 6000 dollars, we all hope that because now it's only electronics, the price could be take down.

Michael,

Did not mean to point this right at YOU. My apologies for that, but I think that you are on to something. Maybe people do have that fear and maybe there has been a bit of that from RED, that "don't fuck with us" attitude, but I have always taken that as the piss'n'vinigar needed to get things done.

remember to have a "bad attitude" you don't necessarily have to talk negatively about the company. flagrant fanboy posting and general rude attitudes in these situations would count as well but that does not stop people from having bad attitudes on the site in that way.

Though I agree with David there is no way it is taken very seriously but yes if you knocked the camera did what you could to discredit them pulled scams to make them look bad and had a real bad attitude just as any other company they have the right to refuse service(though I seriously doubt they ever will).

honestly I think a huge part of people's testiness is coming from differing world views and ways of dealing with stress, and how we interpret short posts from RED, or read into what others are thinking when we really have no idea.

The "man up" comment being one of the big ones recently, honestly I did not take it nearly as negative as most did. To be honest none of us really know the intention or tone Jim really meant with that comment as it is so hard to get those things across in short posts. I understand everyone jumping to conclusions and taking offense but for the most part all people did was project their worst fears or their deep down resentment for jim into the comments and read it as a attack from him rather than a motivational push or even just a little joke but also pointing out their intentions with the company, to make no compromise professional tools.

the other issue is the cross boarding people have been doing, when an avid reduser or dvxuser crosses sites and jumps into a conversation they have no frame of reference in, and start throwing around accusations and insults is not helping at all.

The worst part is some of the worst of it is coming from established professionals, and for the most part it isn't even direct it's very indirect insults, and for the most part very childish, it's a shame but it's not just this industry it's all of them I just hope people can start to get along better and stop drawing lines in the sand and taking sides on everything.

I just have one thing to say at the end of this rant....

I just use the report posts button all the time now. It's the best way to bring attention to poor behaviour.

Even in this thread people started talking about elections.

I'm still weirded out by this fear of posting thing.

I wonder what everybody will be talking in four years. Or, is everybody waiting for Epic-2 and find it tough again? But, experience should help there :-)
Ah, that old DVX user thread, I remember it well... Those were exciting times indeed!...

My favourite quote from the thread (looking back with the 20/20 vision of hindsight) is this:
"Even if hell froze over and the camera head were sold for an astonishing $50,000..."

Hell's pretty cold these days, I hear!! :)
