  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Folks seem testy!

Yay! Oh wait that's not any of us. :(

It's tough.. No release date, and no idea when it will come out.. Just "soon" but that could be in "tree" years..

Many people are holding onto cash, getting close to the end of the year, and looking at a lot of nice cameras dancing in front of them.

You want the best, but you also want to shoot.

Like I said.. It's tough.

Will it be worth the wait? Of course... But it's a hell of a wait!

Conversely, bad (ie overly optimistic) information increases impatience.

I don't know. I'm thinking about this one. I think the false starts and missed dates all help to string us along nicely but keep us interested.

If in 2008 RED told me they were coming out with a truly revolutionary little camera but it wouldn't be here until 2011 or 2012, I probably would not have even bothered to open a forum account and search for any new nuggets of scarlet info everyday. I'd have a few dozen hours of my life that would have been spent doing something else.

So yes, I think most people like bad info, missed dates, delays and so on,... Much better than silence, no new delivery estimates, no sample footage, etc.

I know I do.

Oh and, why the hell would anyone buy an Alexa?!

There, now there's a bad attitude.

I'm not going to be labeled as someone with having a "bad attitude" by speaking my opinion.

Just go for it. You really think the guys at RED are going to make you pay for having a thought or an opinion?

Do people really believe this?

There is a way to have a reasonable discussion.

I am happy with my Red One....when Jim is comfortable he will release Epic & Scarlet.....I bet he wants them out the door more than anybody, but he will not release then until they are 100%...something we should all be very thankful for!

David,

I agree. I guess I just made this post because there is the palpable feeling lately here. Folks are a bit more on edge than usual.

It feels different somehow.

Oh well. I'm not even thinking about EPIC. When the deposit went down I decided that 30 days notice would be fine and I did not depend on any "projections". RED do their thing and we do ours.

Everyone should just stick to the contract. As far as Scarlet goes, it's even farther down the road.

The camera that matters right now is the workhorse RED ONE. That is the product in the marketplace. No need to worry, project, predict, assume, about the other stuff until it is in the arena.

Everyone just needs to chill. Jim and co are making a hell of an Epic and they are going to release when it's ready. In the meanwhile I'm loving my MX and writing my scripts for next year! I've reset my expectations of Epic to NAB 2011 at the earliest.

I'd rather it be right than fast any day. Things have changed greatly since the prerelease of R1. That was widely considered a hoax, a scam. The industry is paying attention now. Red is still David amongst the giants. Some transparency may have to be blurred to protect the potential of Epic and Scarlet. Jim is the guy with a fortune invested. Give him the courtesy of pulling the trigger when he feels the time is right. His instincts have been more than except-able so far.

I do have some compassion for those waiting for Scarlet but for R1-mx owners, well...we already have an epic camera. Let Red get it right. I believe those willing to wait will be glad they did.

Ps. Any testiness has been caused by endless negative political ads here in the US. Can't speak for the rest of the world:)

Whoa, whoa whoa there Shawn. You need to take a stress pill and get your level of testiness up to the tone set by this thread. I think your kind of cool, level-headed mode of speech is very uninflamitory and is highly unlikely to offend anyone at all on this forum. Just the sort of thing to fail to cause trouble 'round here. Get it together man! :cuss:

"Not Before" Date

"Not Before" Date

A major problem caused by the uncertainty of Epic delivery dates is cashflow management. Having to keep cash aside for the possible release of Epic creates problems with financing other bits of kit which are readily avaliable and could probably be earning revenue in the short term. A "no possible delivery before XXXX" message could open up the option of pursueing some other purchases in the immediate future while planning ahead for the big one.
