Hi,
I have two issues I need help with.

1. Mys - X . Just before turn over an AC goes to check focus using magnify assigned to user 1 followed by focus check on user 2. EVF/LCd and 720p element technica tap goes black freaking out the production !
Does return to live image after a long 3 seconds which is hell when your shooting with infants !

2. The joystick knob - is there a alternative to the shonky one that comes with the camera - that works well and is secure !

This is my first post - go easy !

Matt - C4 Camera - Auckland , NZ.

Reds 498 & 829 - Mys - X Build 30.5 R

"When in SYNCED mode, EVF display may blank for up to 3 seconds:
• When existing OPEN GATE mode
• After exiting MAGNIFY mode when in 4K record resolution
• After changing between certain Varispeed frame rates"
(Build 30 Operation Guide, page 81)

Maybe that is problem #1?

Thanks Oliver - Camera was is shooting 2k 16:9 @ 100fps
Open gate not selected - shooting 25fps project base - EVF in fixed mode.

Reinstalled build 30.5 R on set, seems to have reduced fault - fingers crossed !

Matt.

Hello Thomas - I agree both the rotary knobs are about as practical as an ash tray on a motor bike. Film camera lovers thrive on these sort of failures - aparently some Asian producers are using RED ones as paper weights - If only all parts of the RED were manufactured to an ARRI standard - I love our cameras, but rental life will be short.

The existing knobs definetly need gentle camera dept fingers, but as we all know this does not always occur in rental land.

Some where out there a camera tech will have made a robust reliable alternative to what comes from RED.

Thanks for your time.

Matt.

Hey up Thomas. How goes the editing?

Sorry to hijack the thread!

As far as the joystick knob, invest in a Wiha or Wera precision hex driver, and some Loctite threadlock - mine has never come loose (fingers crossed)

I think one of the very small hex keys that comes in the Red One key set will tighten the joystick.

A dodgy joystick or rotary knob's a pretty silly reason to decide toturn a camera into a paperweight. But yes, substandard knobs, switches, and weatherproofing is very disappointing. Here's hoping Red can spend a few extra bucks on an Epic to take it to a reasonable standard. The goodwill generated would be completely worth it.
