Sorry if this is something i should be able to search for however my searches show 1000000000000 things that have nothing to do with what im looking for.

I rented an epic once which had focus assist which gave me a red zebra kind of pattern in areas of sharp focus. I cant for the life of me work out how to activate that on my new epic (1 week old)
Has the latest firmware lost that function? I worked out how to assign my side handle buttons to show that edge focus assist but thats not the best option for me as the screen goes dark and sometimes critical framing is affected.

Can someone please help me.
Im working it all out slowly.
Thanks.

Red employs zebras for exposure, but I have yet to see it for focusing. In the tools menu there is Focus, Edge and magnify, I believe that's it.

You know what? I think i may have mistaken that red zebra kind of pattern with another focus assist on another camera or onboard monitor setup. I have decided the slight sharpening focus assist on my epic will have to do. It would be nice if we did have a customizable colour pattern to show sharp focus. Just a nice little confirmation which you can clearly see without really needing to look. Great for when youre using the 5inch outside and it gets bright and glarey.

I guess, but in the conditions you describe, I prefer to use a B&W EVF.

The Red One had (probably still has) a red edging effect as a focus tool. I found it pretty useless, as it indicated things in focus that very much were not. The new focus assist on the Epic is done through edging and is really very, very good. Its the first usable focus tool I've found on a digital cinema camera that does not require image enlargement. Nicely done, Red.

Focus assist is great I shoot with it almost 100% of the time. Is there anyway to increase it on the evf? On the LCD is it much more pronounced. Perhaps there is a sharpening option for the evf?

try the edge detection or sharpening... both of those work really great to tell you exactly what's in focus. if you're just setting up a shot, use the magnify in conjunction for extra precision.
