Nothing earth shattering here.. Mostly what people have already said:

The new feature is wonderful, but hard to see. Thicker lines would be a help.

Is there a way to make this feature a hot button on the monitor?

This is excellent work. I'm extremely happy with this assist.

Yes, this feature is a good help. I am glad it was finally implemented! I aggree, some thicker lines would make it even better!

There's a difference between "thin" and "almost invisible".. Take a look at it first, and then see if you feel the same way.

"Thin" or "Narrow" would be just fine with me, but this is almost impossible to see.

Jay

Yeah that works for me too..

SPEAKING OF EVF!!!!!

:)

Edit: Actually no.. This needs to work on the LCD as well. For a number of reasons.. None of which I can think of right now!
:)

This NEEDS to work on the LCD, since a focus puller is not going to have acces to the EVF, not to mine while I'm operating, for sure.

The way to go is make it user configurable IMHO.

IF there is a difference between the EVF and LCD a user could change the function to suit his setup. Additionally, differences in lenses/shots might benefit from more or less precision/thickness/visibilty.

So my advice is these things be configurable:

A) Edge Color (R,G,B)
B) Edge visibility (this could be thickness or saturation etc.)
C) Sensitivity (increase/decrease how much is interpreted as being sharp enough to be lit up)

Sony has 3 brightness levels and the ability to change colors... so that that's the first 2 options.

But this is a welcome feature and appears to work well - but it is very tough to see at this point. Between this Edge Assist, False Color and the RGB Parade I'm feeling like we're getting close to a very easy and fast to use camera. Good job RED.

I can get along quite nicely with current incarnation of the camera, but pleaseeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee! The EVF! That's the focus assist I need.

Are you referring to LCD, or is this new option EVF only

LCD "Focus Assist Button" enabled in build 15

LCD "Focus Assist Button" enabled in build 15

The revised Operations Guide, page 22 says:

"The top of the RED-LCD provides two round and two triangular keys. The key on the left is used to turn on the METER (e.g. FOCUS ASSIST) selected in the VIEWFINDER menu On/Off."

I have not tried this yet, but it looks like the power button doubles as the focus assist toggle (making the power button only an "on" button . . . which is fine with me. I can't ever imagine needing to turn the LCD off).

This alone makes build 15 worth the upgrade.
