  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Flying commercial airlines with Dragon

I use the 1550 Pelican for carry on (in cabin). It fits all plane but the ATR propeller planes. Never had to drop it.

This is me on the way to airport..

Lowpro- Pro Messenger 160 AW (Green) fits the Red Dragon perfectly with monitor, side handle and lens attached. Ready to shoot mid flight in case i see a nice sunset or something interesting on the way... Maybe one day the plane will crash and i can sell the footage for millions ;)

F Stop Satori backpack (Blue) fits everything else.. Glass, filters, Storage, Laptop, Mic, Batteries etc etc..

I carry this all on plane and have been doing so for years around Australia and Thailand. I probably weigh about 50kg but i've never once been weighed for carry on.. touch wood

If i need a tripod or sliders etc i just check them in

My best flight trick is a be the last one on the plane.. usually when they call my name. That way they usually rush you in and theres no way they'd even consider weighing your bag then. Plus i walk straight on the plane and sit on the vacant seats all to myself ;) works every time...Owen

think tank has great trolleys for cameras, i think its the Airport V2 i´m using. It fits most Airline regulations for carry-on and doesn´t look like a "professional" case like a PeliCase. So i often went under the Radar at security checks while my colleges with Peli Cases where emediatly asked for inspection.

I use the Airport Accellerator backpack. Works perfectly. The trick is to always pack it full of batteries. Then it's illegal to check in the hold. So when they tell you there is no more overhead room you just let them know that you can't legally check it due to lithium ion batts.

This is my setup for flying with my Epic and everything I need aside from lenses to shoot. The 1510 fits in every overhead aside from smaller prop planes- even CRJ700/900. I have traveled all over the world with this. International airlines usually scoff at the weight, but I mention its very expensive camera equipment and they let me slide.

I have never had to gate check it, but if I did I would pull out a handle, the Epic and hand carry it on with me. :)
