FLUT, Dynamic Range, ISO/ASA and Aristotle???

Hello Jim and All,

I have a few questions, and, I believe to some extent that the answers are hard to come by,
in the sense that it might not be prudent for "Red" to answer them.
Why are "some" of these questions often not "really" answered?
I am not trying to cause waves here.....my apologies ahead of time if
this is irritating in any way. (I am a huge fan of Jim and Red)

1) On the new S35 MX Sensor, at what ISO/ASA setting would we capture 6.5 stops over
and 6.5 stops under? (this assumes 13 Stops of Dynamic Range for this Sensor)

2) Does changing the ISO/ASA on the new S35 MX Sensor only effect metadata?

3) Is analog gain applied at any point with the new S35 MX Sensor?

4) Does the way that a Canon 5D (etc.) camera obtains ultra high ISO/ASA, the same as with the new S35 MX Sensor?

5) What does "Red" believe the Dynamic Range of 100 ASA 35mm film is?

6) What does "Red" believe the Dynamic Range of 500 ASA 35mm film is?

7) Which following scenario yields a superior image in regards to sharpness/resolution if the same area of the sensor is used?
A) Using a 50mm RPP lens on a S35 Scarlet, or
B) Using a 50mm RPP lens on a FF35 Scarlet?

Also.... I think that Aristotle would love the "Red" philosophy. :smiley::smiley::smiley:

1. That isn't how DR is measured.
2. Changing ISO should influence your exposure decision.
3. No.
4. Not sure... but bet they do analog gain somewhere in there...
5. A lot.
6. A lot.
7. A. Smaller pixels equals more resolution.

This is interesting. Kodak has a page saying 13 Stops, but I venture to say that this
is a rather conservative figure.
