Hey guys,

I like to share some good find for those on a budget with their lighting kits from : http://www.servicelighting.com/Maxlite-35871-SKO200EA50-Twist-Compact-Fluorescent-Light-Bulb

This bulbs are great and produce a very pleasing daylight, in the 5000K there are 200w and produce about 12000 lumens but I wasn't able to really measure the thru out put, but they are bright, I use them in a Photoflex Constellation and a 54-72" Softbox, great effect.

And the price is right, costumer service is Excellent.

nice! any idea of the CRI?

I am quite happy with the Cool Lights 200 watt, and they might actually run cooler because the ballast is vented.

CRI - Color Rendering Index - a measure of how accurately a globe creates an ideal or natural light (in this case, daylight.) Amongst other things, CRI is used to grade fluorescent and HMI globes.

Just to hold you over until a more knowledgeable person comes along and makes me look like a complete idiot, it roughly means the amount of color spectrum available in the light. I believe 0-100 with higher better. I think anything over 85 is good. It looks like these bulbs are nice to the eye but more thorough testing would be good. At the price testing is not painful.

Hi,

85 might be acceptable to some 92 is very much better.

I havent found any yet and have been looking hard. There are smaller bulbs available. 85 CRI or so. Also some that require external ballasts. I know Megaman have some available but Im not sure what the CRi figure is. Bear in mind CRi is only a very rough guide, I think CRi only uses 6 colours to measure the spectrum. You really need to look at a spectrogramme to see how balanced the output really is.

You could also look at some of the smaller CDM or HID bulbs and balasts also.

Heres one, I beleive the company can build a 220/240 ballast on request.
