Anyone know a good resource for custom flight cases?

They are called flight cases right? ATA Cases? Not pelican but the hard metal cases with metal latches.

Thank you.

I'm using a very big Pelican case with "pick 'n' pluck" foam. It is one of thei9r wheeled cases and it holds everything perfectly. It's a great set up.

Michael Grugal,

I got my cases from Encore Cases in Burbank, CA and used "Digitalfx's" drawings. Very nice ATA cases.

Thanks again Digitalfx for posting and sharing your ATA drawings.

Ya thats exactly what I am going to do. I just downloaded your designs Digitalfx, thank you for making those available to us.

we just got our made at A&J cases here in los angeles,

We had the following made:

<>body case - with cut outs for LCD, EVF, ET cheeseplate and handle mounted
with spacing for the breakout box & a small AKS space in the side for cables.

<>A power pack case- fits 1 powerpack with batts mounted and a slot for cables

<>Red drive case- fits 2 RedDrives with lot's of foam and 4 cf cards & a small space for cable again.

They are super nice, all white and with extra thick foam in all the needed areas.

Ask for janet she's a sweetheart ....and they already have these designs inhouse... also while I was picking the cases up they offered to fix a latch on a very abused case for me for free.

Thats customer support!!

ps.
I just remembered that Janet ha commented people were ordering the lasercut foam already for Pelican cases, since some people prefer those.

Could you tell us the price of the cases?

If you mention to a Pelican rep that they are not ATA rated you will get an earful. That is a common statement that competitors make.

One thing in Pelicans favor is light weight which matters in this world of reduced airline weight restrictions. Also the Pelicans are waterproof which - if your gear is on the tarmac getting rained on the fiberglass reinforced plywood and metal hardware cases leak. I have reasons to like both types of cases. If I was a rental house I would go with the old school cases. But I was also an A.C. for many years and I had moisture in some cases in wet conditions from major rental houses. Some of the empty old school cases are already 20-25 pounds. A typical 35 mm rental package is 750 - 1200 pounds as cargo and maybe 30% of that is cases. If you are shipping cargo the rates are lower and the heavier cases offer a lot of protection.

So to me a lot of this depends on if you are shipping via cargo or if you are checking camera gear as baggage. If baggage Pelican is a player. If cargo go old school with the "Anvil" type case. Excess baggage has been a huge expense for the last 7 years. Almost as much as my passenger ticket sometimes.
