I've been experiencing this weird thing with my display ever since I received my Raven. Every time I turn it on, as soon as the screen goes live within a few seconds the screen will flick black one time. I called Red and they checked my logs etc and they couldn't figure it out, so they suggested I send it in to get it serviced.

So I stopped by my local RED store to mail it out and one of the employees told me that this situation happens frequently on Ravens and not to worry about it. He then demonstrated the same thing I was experiencing with a few Ravens at the store using 5 and 7 inch screens. I proceeded to ask a friend who owns a Raven if this bug happens to him as well and he told me no.

Has/Does anyone else experience the same black flick that I do?

It happened to me maybe twice since I've had it which is almost 2 months now...but it doesn't bother me, figured it's still warming up and needs it's morning coffee like me lol

lol yeah that's what I was thinking as well. I just wasn't sure if it was a glitch/bug or something more sinister!

So apparently my friend who said he wasn't experiencing the same issue as me just updated his firmware and is now having the same issue. So it seems like this is a firmware and not hardware bug.

Emil,

Are you have any troubles with black shading at all? have you perform any on the new firmware? If so have you had any problems?

I haven't updated the firmware since I got the camera a couple weeks ago, since it came with the most up to date firmware. As of yet I haven't experienced any black shading (fingers crossed)

The momentary blanking of the LCD that occurs a few seconds after startup is the completion of the initialization process for the RED Touch 4.7" and 7.0" LCDs and is considered normal.

For any additional questions or assistance, please feel free to submit a Technical Support request on support.red.com, we're happy to help.

Thanks Brad, it this a firmware thing? I've been told this wasn't happening with older firmware, so just seeking clarification.
