  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

FLASHPOINT MATTEBOX - $329 (aka Adorama Store Brand). ANY GOOD?

Avoid anything branded "flashpoint".
I’m sorry that this has been your experience, but I know that for many of our budget-conscious customers, the Flashpoint range is a popular option.

All units come with a full 12-month warranty – which includes a 30-day returns period, and I’m only an email away for advice and after-sales support: Helen@adorama.com

Good is pretty subjective. For my purposes I've been more happy with my $99 indian matte box than I have been with the $800 redrock matte box which I found bulky and flimsy. In the end the flashpoint will probably cut lens flares and hold filters and might even be nearly identical to the redrock matte box. The review on adorama's website says its pretty good for the price. Personally I think redrock/flashpoint is a bad match for the Scarlet EF since it is probably larger than the camera itself and unnecessarily large for still lenses, but might be an ok cheap option for Scarlet PL.

Arri makes really nice matte boxes, but if you can't afford it, better a flimsy too-large matte box than none.

Thanks Helen

I agree Michael, we love our Redrock Mattebox. It's heavy, but it's also very sturdy.

Its surprisingly good for the price. but designed more for DSLR folks. small opening, wont work on most decent PL.

That's good to know. I've got a disposable MB from ebay that will last at least a couple of lens changes when my camera arrives, then I guess it will be down the ARRI route. Unless Red have brought out a swing matte box by then. My order was in the 8*** region, so there's probably a week or so for them to develop something for me.
