I don't have much experience with filters apart from the usual ND's and ProMist.

Are there filters that give you something ... interesting? Flare wise?

For example, one thing I've enjoyed was a UV filter with a deep scratch.

So what about all the Glimmer stuff? Except the corny star filters of course. Instant diabetes.

A number of filters will "bloom" your highlights, which could augment the "feeling" of a flare...Streak filters certainly dramatically affect flares. The Optifex (now Tiffen) streak filters are superb for this, and come in a wide variety of colors - blue, orange, yellow, red, green, purple, etc, and also in a number of strengths. You could take a look at those - the blue ones are an easy way to mimic "anomorphic" horizintal streaks...when shooting spherical.

Also, star filters are streaks of a sort...

hope this helps...

I remember 'starburst' filters back in the day. Star filters with a kind of prism effect on the light points. Horribly cheesy when used badly but could be put to good use.
