So I can not for the life of me figure out how to get rid of the lag on our Flanders monitor. I had a director almost refuse to use it cause of the massive delay. I have settings on the monitor set to "fast" processing mode but it doesn't seem to do a whole lot.

Any ideas on how to fix this and/or monitors that work better?

Thanks!

Here's what I would do to sort the problem. I would arrange a shot that had a clear view of (1) the house SMPTE clock, (2) the timecode showing on the RED TOUCH monitor, and (3) the timecode showing on the FSI (sending overlays to the HD-SDI port). After connecting house SMPTE to the timecode in port and shooting a few seconds of video, I'd look at:

1. How recorded timecode compares to displayed timecode of house clock (should be 1:1).
2. How house clock display compares to TC display on RED TOUCH (could be 1:1, or could be a frame of delay)
3. How house clock display compares to house clock display on RED TOUCH (ditto)
4. How house clock display compares to TC display on FSI
5. How house clock display compares to house clock display on FSI

Please report back!

fast processing mode in conjunction with a PSF signal makes it nearly bearable.. BUT red is only true P

just a idea but try increasing the output clock frequency of the Red camera 50 or 60 (depending on base rate).. it may increase the update by half a frame.

basically they are great gradeing and DIT monitors but for editing or sensitive directors it can tricky...

other option is give the director audio on a IFP with a delay and he/she should be happy

Make sure HDSDI output is set to 59.94 vs 23.98. There is a huge difference there. Plus, have your audio mixer delay the monitor mix for the director slightly and you should be gold. I've noticed that even with other monitors, the red has a slight delay anyway, so it's not all the monitor's fault.

I've spoken to Flanders tech support (always great, btw) about this same issue and sadly there's no in monitor fix. Kinda sucks as this always bites me. I've used the sound mixer delaying the com tech feed as the only viable solution. I love their monitors and really wish they'd come up with fix.
