  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Fixed or not

because of autofocus, the money I safe not having a focuspuller can be used for (...)

No autofocus will ever replace a (decent) focus puller.

Of course, I have not seen the RED autofocus in action, but from past experience I would use autofocus very sparingly, maybe to assist in manual focussing - but I would not rely on it for crucial focus jobs.

You have obviously never seen a fluffer do some serious 'pulling'...
No you're right, but at my budget that's all I've got.

ofcourse scarlet 2/3 cinema with red mini primes
its just the fixed zoom making me lill nervous

Ohhh, a fluffer. LOL. How much does a fluffer cost per scene?:lipsrsealed:

fixed then S35.. got lots of FF canon lenses.. but no money at this point.. fixed would be also a great starting camera...
people who mentioned autofocus... add.. who said that fixed lens scarlet will not have manual focusing..
and in addition RED is making a real nice zoom lens on that camera which opens f2.8 to its farest mm..
when red mini primes are on the market a 2/3" Scarlet Cinema is not expensive.. and then you'll have two units sharing all acc.. so, upgrade in peace..

I would have loved tje zoom to have a greater range, though - both in the wide and long end... But I know that that spec is probably not up for a change. We'll se a lot of "doublers"...

Does it say anyway that the 2/3" fixed will not have manual focusing? That's some of the information I would like to have right now so I can make a decision whether to wait for the 2/3" fixed to be released or start looking into different camera manufactures. I don't think that is too much to ask. :undecided:

it has fly by the wire manual focusing, so yes... it has manual focusing, it could hardly be considered a real camera without such a feature.

Had me scared there for a moment :yikes: No manual focus :cryin: That's just crazy talk :out: I wish some people would just stop saying stuff like that :frown2:

I'm leaning fixed, however if RED prices the mini-primes and individual Scarlet modules with their customary aggression I expect to be sorely tempted to go cinema instead ...

Any knowledge on how Nikon/Canon lenses will cover the 2/3" sensor? what about DX lenses?

Also have there been any statements on lens mounts interacting electronically with still lenses?

Well coverage is not an issue since a 2/3" sensor is so much smaller than APS-C.

But what lens will you use for a decent wide angle? Canon 10-22 perhaps (need Birger for that?).

The other issue will be the lens resolution, you may end up with a soft image using 35mm lens.
