fix Red Pro touch screen

wasn't sure where to put this question - Is it possible to fix a 9" Red Pro Touch Screen Monitor? The monitor works fine as a monitor but the touch screen functions don't work. I don't own the monitor but looking at maybe purchasing it only if I can get the touch screen to work. Thanks

Hi Fred,

I have gone down this exact path before. I purchased a Red 9" Red Pro Touch that had lost it's touch functionality. I was fine that it didn't have this as I use my side handle to control camera functions. I just wanted the 9" size that in my opinion makes operating much more enjoyable than off my 7" Touch.

Then my 9" monitor fell off my jib... The screen cracked, but the LCD still functioned. Keep in mind that the part that cracks on the screen is called a Digitizer. Basically a glass panel that contains the touch sensitivity function. Underneath this glass panel is the actual LCD. I searched and searched for a replacement 9" screen that contained touch functionality to no avail. I even attempted to separate the glass touch panel that was cracked from the LCD screen much like IPAD or Iphone repair shops do. The glue that's used to bond the LCD panel to the Digitizer is way too sticky and impossible to remove. I was able to find a replacement LCD screen without the digitizer on ebay: MITSUBISHI AA090TA01 TFT-LCD Screen 9" 1280 x 768px 60Hz 3.3VDC 219 X 136.2mm

I then went and purchased a sheet of plexiglass at Home Depot and cut it to size to protect the LCD screen.

I'll also say that I've purchased two broken 7" touch LCD monitors one with the POGO and one with the Lemo style connectors and swapped the internals to get one functioning monitor.

I will say that these Monitors are extremely easy to repair if you can find and harvest the parts. The difference in build quality between the 7" and 9" in is night and day with the 7" being far weaker. Kind of a shame to see.

As a side note, if anyone has the guts to open up the back of their HI-Brite 7" touch and take a picture of the LCD I think it would be interesting to see what screen manufacturer RED chose to use. Makes me wonder if I could swap it into one of my broken 7" displays.

Thanks Aaron. I'm going to have to learn to use the side handle. Am I able to keep the Gold Mount on the camera at the same time having a Redvolt in the grip without causing any issues or do I just run the camera with the hand grip (Redvolt) battery?

Yes, you can have a RED VOLT in the side-handle and run with a battery on the back of the camera at the same time. I do this everyday. You can swap the battery on the back of the camera and it will keep running as long as the SIDE HANDLE battery has good power.

This 5inch is the best for me seriously
