Just wanted to share this commercial with others since I was really impressed with the Red Prime Pro lenses. There are five commercial spots all covering the "Five Senses" concept. Each one is depicting a sense much like a mini-movie storyline. Each one was shot in 4k 16x9 RC36 and the new Red lenses.

The five are: "Touch", "Smell", "Taste", "Sight" and "Hearing".

The first one is Touch - "First date".

Very nice, and I love the look of the RPPs.

One issue though, is the editing seemed a little quick. The narrator kept getting cut off and the last shot with the actual information on the restaurant was cut short. I didn't even have a chance to read it and I know that the final title card with the directions how to get there is usually the most important part.

Other than that though, it was really well shot. Good work Gary.

Yes, some parts were overlapped because I wrote too much info...First time around, I wrote the VO to my voice (bad idea) because I speak very fast and laid down a rough track using my voice...but when the VO actress came in, she gave me...like many real actress' do "emotion" in the dialogue that was much slower. So, I had to overlap the dialogue tracks to "cut" to visuals.

My mistake...I crammed in too much info in the narration.

The last shot is about 2 1/2 sec long...maybe I should have it longer. I'm going to be cutting a :60 sec spot so I would let it breathe...

Thanks for the compliments...nice to hear from others especially here.

Very nice. The young girl is adorable...great smile. Hope it does well for you.

Thanks...she was great to work with and yes, adorable as you can see.

Yes, I hope so too.

Thanks for the compliment.

Thanks. Well, that's my fault. I just wrote too much, I timed it exactly, the client approved it but when the actress came in...I had to make it work. Actually, if you listen to it...its only one part that was overlapped. Not a biggy...well in my mind.

I find most people (Masses) don't listen to the dialogue anyhow...they want to see the images and strong visuals. Dialogue and music is 2nd playing in the background. Its a shame but its true.

"Smell" - 2nd commercial

"Smell" - 2nd commercial

Just letting all of you know...the second commercial is up called "Smell". We used Red Primes Pro and Zeiss ZF lenses for this shoot. Its not as glamorous of "Touch" or the others coming up but I think it works.

Enjoy.

I'm surprised after all the hits - no one commented!?! Only two

to be honoust I like the the way you try to get the ambience, but in the second spot you should have try to get more narrow depth of field because there are to many things in the shot you don't want to see. The fan for example can be nice but unsharp, now it dominates the shot while it has nothing to do with the scenery. The same in the shot with the focus on the man at 9s. An empty chair and a tree in the corner. The framing at te 18s is weird. The lady at the left side looks weird and is cut of half.
I understand the way you try to get the people naturally, but I think you should and get much closer shots to see less of things you don;t want to see. The scene where the waiter is coming into the shot is against to much light when you get sort of haze.

The first commercial is more directed and that you can see in everyting.

love to see the other ones

the food shots don't look good to me. not enought light ?
some outside shots are overexposed.
these commercials look quite dull to me, sorry.

The second spot is off the cuff and not directed at all. It was completely not staged nor choreographed. I had no control people nor light.

the waiter, he was blown out completely by the light in the background. I was dealing with the light outside (tented) from the foreground then the background. Two different exposures.

The second one was documentary style...not the strongest from the bunch.

Thanks for your comments.

Which food shots. "Touch" is completely lit, some of "Smell" is lit and some is off the cuff with the kitchen staff. Not what I wanted but we had no choice.

Yes, the some of "Smell" is overexposed, not happy with at all. Very bright day, and dealing with two exposures.

Did you watch both commercials?

yes, i did.
i was talking about the diches presented on the plates (in the "smell" commercial). they don't look very appetizing sorry.

Not sure if you know you need to have your "REAL" name here on the forum.

We all appreciate it...just post it in the "REAL Names" in RECON section...

No worries, not all is going to like it nor the food shots. The client is happy and that's how you have to go on it. Unfortunately so...!

My thoughts... Maybe you just don't hear it, could be your monitors or the ambiance of the room you edit in, and I don't mean to be harsh, but your audio needs some big time help.
The voice over was poorly recorded, and then left that way, with all the plosives left in? And the music mix was poorly executed as well.

Please don't take this the wrong way... Use it as a learning tool!

Explain?

Explain?

Maybe you can explain more in detail. Okay...VO was poorly recorded like what? With all the plosives left in? Elaborate?

Music mix...please explain more?

Sure, I'm not an audio mixer/recorder but I'm curious to what you mean? Its one track....

I don't get insulted that easily...not to worry.

To be honest it sounded as though you recorded the voices for the vo with an on-camera mic in what ever room you happened to be in at the time. Room ambiance on the lead vo interfered with the read. There was an overboard amount of plosive information, you know like P pops and such that were also left in the finished read. And the vo struggled against the music. You really need a little compression to glue things together.

All the Best!
